I just go off the phone with a printer and they suggested that I not round the corners of the letterhead and business card I'm working on because in their experience the client is never happy with it and always forgo the die cut on reprints.
Do any of you have experience with this? Has this been the case with your clients?

clients are cheap bastards.

his opinion does not matter.
and the die's cost shouldn't be a deterrent. They have standard dies for that shit.
- lvl_130
sounds like they are trying to get out of doing it. i would say their opinion doesn't really matter.

I'm not worried about the cost, It shouldn't be too much extra. He says they find them to be impractical and something about shaving down the stump... I don't know.
Have any of done this for your clients? Any reactions postive of negative?

yeah that's a load of sh**
sounds like a lazy vendor, and they have no place butting in to the design decision-making process
- Gucci0
if it works for the cilent and they approve it... do it.
the printer sounds like he's being more lazy than anything else because the money isn't worth his extra effort.
if he keeps bugging you about it, ask him point blank: "Do you really needs this job?"
Then... watch him squirm.

I only did it once, the client liked it

I'm not worried about the printer, the project is being quoted by a few printers. But, she did bring it up and I have very little print experience, so I was hoping to find that someone on NT had done this before and had great results and all my doubts would be layed to rest.

I've done rounded corners loads of times, and never heard this sort of thing from a vendor - tell him to charge what it's worth to him, and to stop whining and do the work
or find another printer who wants to build a good relationship with you
- abba_cadaver0
Those are types of answers I was hoping for Rand.

tell them to fukc off and go to the next printer.
You are the designer!...right Crouwel?
- Gucci0
I've never had a "bad experience" with rounding corners.
clients have always liked them.
- OSFA0
Did it for 2 clients. They both liked it. The second one got sold based on the first one. Never had a printer give me that load of bs.

So the consensus is Fuck the printer she's a lazy moron it's going to look good.
This is good.

I wouldn't call them lazy, they just want to provide good customer service by informing you that in the past their dealings with this ... these have been the results.
I don't think they were trying to get out of doing it, they were just telling you what their experience has been in case that may have changed your decision.
Would you want them to say that the type of purple you are using comes out pink when they print it from experience ... you know, just to let you know?
- mrdobolina0
sounds like the printer is already "rounding corners" on this project.
- Gucci0
flav, that's a technical issue.
if they said "whenever we've done rounded corners on the stock your using, the edges get torn" – that would elicit a concern.
"Johnny down the street didn't like his rounded corners after his first batch was done" – shouldn't set off any alarm bells.

Yea, I think you just reiterated my point Gucci.
Or wrote what I wanted in better terms.

listen up, chap.
you are just a servant. a puppet really. a puppet with strings. the strings are operated by people that matter in this world: clients and printers.
you better obey to the strings.
seriously, the people controlling you know best.
they know what is best for this world and for you.

tell him the last printer who gave him lip got a molotov cocktail through the window.
