and, for the record, im calling bullshit on people saying that bostonians have funny accents. we were founded by the english, the same people who started the language. and, a boston accent doesn't pronounce the 'r' just like most english accents. thus, i am going on record and saying everyone else speaking english in america has a funny accent!

Midland, bitches.
and this clearly proves that I don't say "aboot"
- flavorful0
matty, don't worry you don't have funny accents ... it's just that usually kids grow out of talking like that after taking remedial language courses in grade school.

matty lives in boastin!! everybody, laugh!!

* shakes fist at flavorful and jox

Then why does everyone ask me to say "park the car in harvard yard?"

(Nov 21 06, 11:03)Oh man, when I was on the train in Boston and the guy yelled, "Next staaaaawwhhpp paaaaawwwhhhk street!"
I fucking lost it.
Literally lost it.

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.
weird 'cause i thought the people in the movie fargo sounded ridiculous. i know i don't sound like them, but now i'm just confused.

midland, next closes south...
Shit I must sound like i'm stupid... wait, maybe that works out rightly

When I go up and visit my sister in Boston, I put on this huge accent when I first meet people and tell them I'm from Somerville.
Then I can't keep it up because I'm laughing so hard at the accent, then end up going into my own ... and then people start making fun of me.

(Nov 21 06, 11:05)You have more in common with fish than you do with the rest of the country.
- mattyd040
lol flavorful. i know what you mean. the guys on the trains really dial the accent up.
the worst was when i was at northeastern and all the kids from the suburbs were like 'dood, im going down to the pahhhhhhk to watch nomahhhhhh!'
- grunttt0
*laughs at matty
and matty, yes bostonians do have funny accents (i work for a boston company, and i'm on the phone with them daily). it's the EXTRA "r's" that crack me up. Like the word "drawing" is pronounced "drawrrring."
you know it's true. =)
i'm not really talking shit though. I have a thick southern accent, for fuck sake! now that shit is funny!
- mattyd040
i just said 'drawing' to myself and realized its true. haha.

i have a Midland accent. can you survive in Alaska with that or people will just mock you?
- grunttt0
witt - you can survice in alaska with a midland accent. the trick is, on your first day in the state you have to beat the hell out of the first person that mocks you, then walk around all tough.
it's like your first day in prison without all the ass-rape.
- Jaline0
Haha, Boston accents can be cute, but some of the time you're just like, "what the hell?". Same reaction goes for people with southern accents, just not to the same extent. I remember half the people hated "Boston" Rob from Survivor even more because of his thick accent.
- jakeyj0
haha matty
- Jaline0
Alaska, eh?
Watch out. There are some Canadians hovering around the border there still holding on the idea that Alaskans are "our" people.
