depends on who it is for

I'm partial to the Joshua Tree era.

If it is for something I believe in, I think they deserve it and more importantly NEED it for free, and I won't feel like my time was wasted, then yes!

working on something now for this guy who is sailing around the world to bring GIS related data / equipment to places that need a bit of jump start - naming the ship and its onboard initiative, doing the site, print collateral, etc. - feels good for this one as the founder is a super good dude, and it should "better" alot of communities - exposure for us isn't bad either ;)

do them. good fun if the right job.

more of an 'achtung baby' fan myself.

I do it often because I like it.
And people say: You damn fool. You damn fool.
Go wonder why people put you down when you do what you feel that is the best of you.

For good and legitimate, causes only...

never ever!
- paraselene0
as often as possible!

Keep working for free jackasses. That'll get respect and higher wages to our already under respected and under paid jobs.
- paraselene0
it's not working for free, it's donating your time and expertise to charity. you know? those less fortunate than yourself? ring any bells?
- REALLY_REAL0
What the fuck do poor people need flash websites for?
- mr_snuggles0
I haven't charged for anything I've done recently... I mean, granted, nobody would pay for the cliché drivel I've been serving up anyways, so hey, we all win... I guess except for you, REALLY_REAL but I suppose with that attitude, you'll never be in the winner's circle...
- republik80
If the project was interesting and for a not-for-profit organisation then i'd consider it.
But i'm not one for doing projects at no charge, just because their "cool".
- REALLY_REAL0
What kind of winner's circle has no money in it?
- designerror0
I don't do em, because I simply don't have the time for it.
- paraselene0
i think that people are confusing pro-bono ("for the greater good") with doing shit for free because a) your pal asked you to or b) you're meant to get some sort of cachet out of having been a part of it.
if you don't have the time or contacts necessary to do some truly useful work for ngos or charitable organisations, that's understandable.
i personally don't have as much money as i'd like to tithe, so where i can, i make things instead.
and if you can't see why poor/disadvantaged people need websites, you're probably just an ignorant scrooge who's best left griping about how poorly respected and poorly paid our industry is and not doing fuck all for other people.
