i think that people are confusing pro-bono ("for the greater good") with doing shit for free because a) your pal asked you to or b) you're meant to get some sort of cachet out of having been a part of it.
if you don't have the time or contacts necessary to do some truly useful work for ngos or charitable organisations, that's understandable.
i personally don't have as much money as i'd like to tithe, so where i can, i make things instead.
and if you can't see why poor/disadvantaged people need websites, you're probably just an ignorant scrooge who's best left griping about how poorly respected and poorly paid our industry is and not doing fuck all for other people.
