hi, i've done some text animations in After Effects. the dudes are gonna slot them into parts of a bigger widescreen size movie. they want them supplied as anamorphic quicktime renders.
i've set up the files as PAL D1/DV widescreen 720x576.so do i just export full quality with no stretching? is that anamorphic? or should i stretch it to 1024 x 576?

just leave them like they are.
widescreen doens't work like u want to do..the media( like tv) actually squeezes the movie( who has a pixel ratio 1,42) do a widescreen format..
pal 16/9 looks in after effects like a movie that is scaled like this width 100 and height 125 percent

what you needed to have done is create everything from beginning to end on a canvas size of 1024 x 576 then render your movie with a strech of 720 x 576 this will be an anamorphic picture in a 4x3 frame which is how they want it, however you have not made your project in this way so you will need to do some reworking depending on what kind of materials you have to give them.... also do they have an 'ARC' so they can simply change the aspect ratio or is everything going to be tapeless?.

appologies I missread the widescreen bit your movie is fine they can use exactly what you have :D like tank the tank magavin said :)
- chossy0
alright indian pole I forgot you were a teviot boy, hows life there?.
- indian_pole0
hi, cheers ... i'm not sure chossy.
i can export the movie as stretched 1024 x 576. its all vectors/eps, solids and text done in Afx so it all stretches fine.would that be better u think? cos if i supply 720 x 576 it will pixelate when they stretch it no? or is that a silly thing to say?

lifes good, we did pretty well at the roses last week!
- chossy0
nah it's not silly atall, basically you have the correct files to give them.
Programs and dvd's and basically most things broadcast at 720, 576 or 768 x 576, so what happens is the picture is reduced in height to compensate for the oval shape you have created. Therefore broadcasting in 16:9 LB (letter Box) or commonly referred to as widescreen.
So if you have an animation of 1024 x 576 it is in widescreen format but not anamorphic, so when popped into a 720 or 768 by 576 screen it will distort to become full height anamorphic.Basically the dudes who are using your anim will import it into their project and tell the editing sytem depending on what it is that the files are 16:9 anamorphic as you have supplied them, alternatively if you supplied them 1024 then they would not need to tell the system it is anamorphic and yada yada yada.
as tank said your files are fine as they are :D

ohh look at you mr or missus fancy pants?....

cheers. i see what u mean. when i open the full render in Quicktime it says 720 x 576, and '(1024 x 576)' in brackets.
big thank you to tank and chossy.
