Ok, I just called.GS Lite is no different from GS besides:
- 50GB space (instead of 100GB)
- 500GB of Bandwidth (instead of 1TB)
- Rubie on Rails Container (instead of the full ROR system)Everything else is the same.
Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

not exactly sure how it's going to be better. if uptime wasn't a problem before, then the only added benefit is that your site won't go down if there's a spike in bandwidth. then again, if there is a spike, then there going to charge you for the extra bandwidth that you use (it doesn't look like there's an option to cap it so that you don't get charged extra if you get slashdotted or whatever). this new system just automates the process of managing user accounts (for them). the new ajax webmail might be a plus (i rarely use webmail, so i wouldn't know). all in all, i think it might be useful for some people who are starting out a new web product and don't know how it's going to scale, but not as useful to the vast majority.

um, ok, subverse. Whatever you say. But, I would say 50 GB of space (even though you probably won't need it), 100 domains, and 500GB of Bandwidth for $0 to migrate is a pretty good deal. For anyone.

Just signed up for a brand new account last night. Looks good so far. Only thing that doesnt make sense is that all the mysql databases share one username and password.

(Oct 18 06, 13:37)i admit, it shounds much better. some people will make use of that extra 45 gigs, and others will make use of the 95 extra domain names, but a vast majority will not. it costs nothing for a company to say that it will give you 95 extra domain names, becuase most people won't get past one or two... it's simply marketing. dreamhost has been doing it for years, which is why they're so popular when their service is sub-par. make people feel like they're getting a deal when i reality they're never going to have a need for what you're offering. for those of you who will actually make use of these added benefits, you're getting a sweet deal, but you're not the majority.

if the majority of (mt)'s clients were the general public that might be true, but if most of them are designers, i think a good portion of them will make use of extra space and domains.
whatever, i'm just bummed gs lite still only has 5 domains. the should at least bump it up to 10.

this is getting much more of a disappointment along the way.
seems like some stupid tv game lottery thing.. you got the answer, so you think you win the 5k bucks, but then you have to gamble, get three aces or whatever.. but then you only get two so you only win 500 bucks, then comes the tax guy and you have only 200 bucks left..
