You have all that kit and don't know to turn up the iso? Jeeze, how unworthy.

shoot RAW underexposed down to -2
When developing RAW in Photoshop, adjust the exposure +2 up
Test different ISO before shooting, this technique probably won't work too well with the highest ISOs, but many times allowed me to shoot low light handeld.

if you got a 1.4 and still struggling how dark is it?
use a diffused or snooted flash?

i know how to turn up the iso.
alot of the times im in dark alleys out on the street other times very dark bars and clubs
often times i cant use flash or dont want to if i use my flash theres never an issue.

careful underexposing your raws as you will get noise in your shadows.
I wouldn't tke the 20d past 400 iso.Just use a tripod and drag your shutter speed.
Also, true that you can push RAW 2 stops, but i believe that pushing it over 1 stop starts to affect your file in a negative way.
But always shoot RAW never never never jpg.

well if you can't use a tripod and/or the subject is in motion you could definitly try the underexpose option, rather then turning up the ISO. Any digital camera gets pretty shitty results above ISO 400, IMHO.
yes, you may loose detail in the shadows, but play with the contrast to use this in your advantage. (ie make it a style).
this is interesting to apply to concert photography for instance.
