(Oct 17 06, 08:03)Lol.
Look–the man had such a profound impact on cinema you can point to things everywhere as being influenced by Kubrick. And yes, if I look long enough I can see why one would be so drawn to the Kubrick thing here. But the clown thing and the paint thing is all too surface for me.
Honestly, it was not even on my radar when I saw this. I felt more resonance with the influence of Linsay Anderson films, and larger themes like color and joy within desolation and sparseness.
Just my take.

Hey no problem
Nice discussion to have. Don't usually get those thrown up by commercials so that's something at least.

i can't wait for tango's take of this ad!

Very true.
Hey--even if you don't like the commercial, I guess we can have a tet a tete over it, it says something about the richness of the material anyway. This ad doesn't knock me out that's for sure, but I do get excited about Glazer's work outside of advertising.

Yeah
He's kind of getting a slow burn reputation for intelligent movies. It's just as a fan of his, I think he's been using Kubrick references for a while (to whatever extent) and I think that it's natural to aspire to someone as masterful as Kubrick - I just feel (in my opinion) he's still using a lot of indicators that will hold him back from taking the next step and being an innovative and iconic director on the big stage.

...by big stage I mean enduring cinema

True dat.
