D80! boom

get what you can afford then add a lens -- all lenses are OK untill you start getting more pro or try to squize your camera more.

i tent to take lost of pics at an extreme conditions with hardly nay light.
I own D20 and 3 lenses:
Canon 28-80/ 3.5-5.6 (shity multi purpose lens)
Sigma 70-300/4-5.6 (Ok telephoto lens)
Sigma 24-70/2.8 (Ok at 2.8 really good at f4 and higher)

ok not ok.. you know your shit.
i shoot with a nifty fifty and the 85
both 1.8 .well informed thread. i shoot 20D and its a tank with the grip. all day every day. way more workhorse than a rebel.

Sweetness. Thanks.

Yep..it's the same lens. Nice and fast at a very good price. And when you've mastered this baby and want something longer get the 85mm 1.8..a very nice portrait lens that compliments the 50mm...also priced right.

After shooting with a 30d and a rebel xti there is virtually no image quality difference between the two when using the same lenses.
The 30d has magnesium shell, a brighter/larger view finder (pentaprism?), 5fps, bigger image buffer and more battery life.
Im buying a 30d though as the features above are important to me.
You will get better shots from a rebel with decent glass than a 30d with the kit lens though so if you havent got much to spend, get some good lenses and buy the rebel.

wow whats with the hate for 20D's /30D's they are a good cameras. not everyone can afford the 5D.
and im sorry the D50 is a piece. It was made last minute as a tonned down model of the D70 to compete with the rebels. Where as atleast rebels were made to be rebeles.
- Geith0
oops, I meant is *THIS* the same lens?

if i was gonna go for a canon, i'd get a 5D that's if i have money to spend.
but i am happy with my D80. it tends to over expose on matrix metering and i have to adjust some setting. i was debating over d200vs d80 but since i am not a pro, i am totally happy with d80.

looks like a toy? who cares!
i took 60,000 shot with my first gen rebel and it still works like a charm. the plastic body was plenty strong.
are you a pro photogapher? what are you going to be shooting? what will be your images final usage? if not a pro chances are your wasting money on the 30d.
use the cash you will save by getting a rebel and put it towards a better lens than that POS the package with it.

d50 mother fucker :D

only 13 grand?

Mamiya Zd.
20Ds are toys. horrible controls and they look like a piece of plastic. if you're at all serious about photography, you won't get a 20d.
if costs and easy point and shoot fully auto mode is what you want, get a 20D.

oh and you can view 100% crop comparisons here for most lenses...

The Tamron 17-50mm is a great/ sharp lens for around 400 US$.
Probebly the best quality you will get for under 500 in that range.

The kit lens overall felt very flimsy and cheap. Once I tried it I ended up spending a little more money on a Canon efs 17-85mm to go with my XTI, very diverse and great picture quality.
Regarding the auto settings think, I think nocomply's example of Sam's work pretty much says enough about the XT.

ditch the kit lens..grab urself a nifty fifty.

Nikon D80.
