you can also find this info on his website [cryptically placed in his Discography] and the-breaks.com lists all the samples used, and there is a 2 disc collection called 'Lost & Found" with the originals, but thanks anyways!

    ;P

  • 23kon0

ive had it for years, alternatively i couldve posted up a link to places on the web. just thought id share it though.

seeing the tracklists for the songs he's used samples from and hearing the originals really makes you realise how much of a genius album endtroducing was.

i was in awe when i found out endrtoducing didnt contain a single instrument played live but was made up completely of samples.

except for the bit 'when i first came to america .... saw xanadu ... thats all i ever wanted to do .... rollerskate"
seemingyl that is his wife talking.

  • mr_snuggles0

it is amazing, have you seen the documentary Scratch? The scene where he goes into the record store he'd been visiting for years [where all the originals for Entroducing came from] gives me moose gumps everytime I see it...

  • Ramanisky20

is Scratch the movie with DJ Z-trip

    I freaking love z-trips style

got all his mixes .... some incredible mixing fer sure

    lol @ moose gumps

  • mr_snuggles0

actually z-trip and the whole bomb shelter crew was neglected, so was Dibbs and a lot of the guys who really helped bring turntablism to the masses. To it's defense the doc is more about hip hop dj's which technically isn't the same yeah...

I've seen one old rocksteady anniversary video with z-trip innit and man, is dude conceited...dope dj, but he more-or-less claims he started the whole turntablist movement and says he's like the illest scrather, which is so far from the truth...

  • 23kon0

yeah ive got Scratch on video . its awesome.

i presume you've seen the brainfreeze video, yeah?

shadow and chemist cut those tunes up awesomely. i saw them do it live. but the video is an awesome memento.

when i'd first got the original setlist from brainfreeze i set myself the task of getting as many as i could on seven inch.

only to find a good while later that albums started getting released with all the songs on it.

but yeah shadow and chemist in brainfreeze REALLY show what djing is all about and really puts all those 'dance djs' that THINK they have talent to shame as AMYONE can beatmix 'doomf doomf doomf'

  • mr_snuggles0

oh, but there is a tiny segment on Future Primitive on Scratch...

  • mr_snuggles0

indeed, I've been spending more time mixing soul, funk and jazz [and other live instrumentation] with programmed beats, just beat-mixing really, which is really fucking hard too... but yeah, these cats are on another level...

The best I have ever seen was the first deep concentration tour, cut chemist, kid koala, pb wolf, radar and a-trak [when he was like 14] cut chemist hogged the decks a lot, but him and koala threw down an amazing set...

  • 23kon0

shadow has been a big influence on me musically too.

    go sample-spotting ...

    ;)

  • 23kon0

older stuff is sample-driven but also has instruments too.
    (guitar/bass/keyboard+strings)
    newer stuff is less sample-driven

I actually saw that while stuck at a light and went "oh shit, some of those QBN folk are Shadow fans. And then I come home and see it's sold out. God damn it.

Used to have a lot of friends at Neptune, did some audio work and usually had tickets on hold.. but social awkwardness is preventing me from seeing DJ Shadow tomorrow. Balls.
