no gradient please. unless you are making it for a web two point zero company!
so try with solid, think it will look nice
- designerror0
also try one where the logo and ext are the same height
- kelpie0
what's your thinking behind it?
Something about it I'm not feeling, though that's not to say it isn't put together nicely and attractive (or that I am completely full of shit)
- kelpie0
(your cards in the other thread are really nice, btw)

I don't like the typography, or the gradient.
I don't have a reason though, just personal taste

Thanks Kelpie. I'm suprised how well they came out as they were printed digitally.

booyah, that's much better to be honest - so is the logo just a monogram type of thing? perfectly reasonable

I assume the logo is based on a symbol which incorporates both a B and a P. It doesn't seem to be particularly obvious though, maybe a little forced.
Also the joint of the stem of the P and the bowl of the B (bottom left) looks a little sharp.
Are they a book publishing company? If so why not try and convey that a bit more?
- Baskerville0
maybe a little cheesy/representational
- Concrete0
Thanks guys.
Baskerville, I think you're right about the bottom left bowl of the B being too sharp. I'll sort that out.
- designerror0
much much better!

Why do people so frequently state that logos should convey a literal representation of the subject?
I don't agree with that.
Christ, that's one down from "cleverly hiding a picture of a bay in there - do you see it? Yeah that's it - just around the coast from the peninsular - watch out for the sharks! Did you like my compass and mermaid?"
Um. Anyway - Concrete, I like the second set of forms - red and black on white. Wasn't a fan of the gradients, and I like the standardised sizing.
My only [minor] quibble - I kind of read the P before the B, but whether that's relevant or not, I'm not sure.

Thanks folks.
Much appreciated feedback.
Peace and f*cking

Nairn, without knowing much about a company it's almost impossible to judge a logo.
I assumed that this was a smallish publishing company. Small companies need memorable logos which tell you something about what they do.
There are many companies with the intials 'BP' (including one very famous one) I don't think company initials are ever a good basis for a logo, it usually doesn't add anything to the logo type.
A quick look on google will show you that many companies with the initals BP have come up with various ways of incorporating the two letters, which is a good example of why it shouldn't be done yet again. A logo should reflect what the company does, offers or stands for. The intials BP tell the viewer nothing about the company and aren't memorable:
If this is the Bay Publishing the logo is for:
http://www.baypublishing.com/then maybe the logo should convey that they design travel based literature.
It's fine for large corporations to do other things with their identity because it can be implemented in different ways and over a much larger scale so it enters the user's consciousness in a more slow-release way. Smaller companies sometimes need a more literal, one-off hit.

it can work well both ways in my opinion, it don't think it's entirely necessary to have a visual representation at all, but if it's done well it can work.
I'd try changing the typeface on the logo. It's probably just personal taste tho.

Baskerville, I absolutely agree with what you are say. Thanks for those other examples too.
This job had to be done quickly. I didn't I even put as much thought into it as you just have.
Form and colour can represent a company's ideals just as much as a more litteral logo mark can.
- myobie0
good conversation going. i agree that color can convey just as much, if not more, than a literal representation
about the logo crit: i think it's the way the top of the B curls into the P that bothers me...but i like where you are going...
and i don't know why it bothers me...could just be my taste
