I'm looking for a MAYA or After Effects tutorial/plugin to create a basic water drop effect like so:

You can do that in Maya. Explore using the soft materials properties and collisions. Can't remember any more, been awhile...but it's really not hard.

RealFlow is the quickest and easiest way to achieve that effect.
If you can get your hands on a copy of Lightwave then this tutorial may be of some help:
