I dont think that is true at all. national health care would help out poor folks a lot and I see no reason not to pursue it, the only stumbling block is the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbies.
It is a difficult time to be a democrat in office these days, you have no power at all. I hope we get a democrat house of reps this fall, at least then we may see some progress.
Honestly, I was never labeled a liberal until after 9/11. I have a lot of views that could be considered "conservative" or whatever.

i wonder if a country like the US wouldn't become a bit ungovernable if every interested party showed up in congress. it's too big for many small parties.
portugal is small and has usually 5 elected parties. most of the time they're trying to get along to decide on something.
