i'd personally rock a vintage plaid tie down a slim cut button down shirt (like g-star or some shit) with some cords or dress pants, or maybe even some solid color jeans.
stylish yet casual...but what the fuck do i know?

some guy came here in a full out suit while all of us dress real casual... he looked like a dork but hey he still got the job

no offense but they are not asking about a math/tech company...and,
ps. what the fuck is a math/tech company?!it's a company that makes software for doing high-end mathematics.
what difference does it make that its a tech company? I said they have casual dress, and actually the design department is LESS casual than anyone else. someone before said it right, it's better to be overdressed. a suit doesn't have to mean a boxy stuff suit, you can be comfortable and add some personality. you can always take off your jacket.

(Sep 6 06, 17:59)yeah, i think that even though it's in creative you should still at least try to act like you are showing up for a job interview...which you are. but there is that weird fine line : )
don't try to wear your wrinkled-ass threadless shirt and some cargos. that would probably not look that good.

Don't really matter if casual or elegant. Nowdays exists a "casual" uniform.
So, if casual or not, break the rules with something really particular in your look.

I'd say nice casual. Some people wear suits when I interview them... it's fine, but it's doesn't help over just wearing something dress-casual or nice.
However I do notice if you just wear a crapp t-shirt and jeans.
I'd say nice jeans, button down, nice shoes.

I have nice suits (minus the jacket) for corporate interviews. I also have plenty of crappy looking business casual clothes.
I have the hardest time dressing for an interview that is somewhere in between. It's the fine line between not looking like a slob that doesn't care vs coming off as a square.

better to overdress tahn underdress

better to underdress than over dress

(Sep 6 06, 18:05)I agree with tara. It's better to overdress than to underdress. You can take your jacket off before/during the interview if you really get uncomfortable, but for the most part dressing for an interview is not the same as dressing for the job once you get it.

if you want to GET the job? a suit. just because you're creative doesn't mean you're unprofessional. my workplace is casual, it's a math/tech company... I still showed up in a suit and they expected me to show up in a suit even though they are casual. a suit or nothing.

Suit or nothing my arse. If someone showed up to an interview where I work in a suit we'd all have a bloody good chuckle.
Swings & Roundabouts mate. Call the place you are interviewing at and ask them what their dresscode is - then have a read through this:

Don't forget the 3 S's the day of the interview - Shit, Shower, Shave. And a wank for good measure and to calm the nerves if there's time.

i wear button down tee, usually black, jeans and sneakers. i feel relaxed and comfortable and i own the room when i interview as well.
be yourself and your work will shine just as much as you do, being comfortable and sleek and know your stuff are all part of it.
good luck!!

(Sep 6 06, 20:18)no offense but they are not asking about a math/tech company...and,
ps. what the fuck is a math/tech company?!that sounds like a high school class rather than a career position. not trying to belittle here by any means (and i realize it may sound that way) but i am really curious about that job you work at.

math/ tech can be like toll booth clerk or cashier

wtf is a button down teeshirt?

i've been told dress one notch above what everyone else working there wears. so if you know that the people working there go jeans/t-shirt, wear like a polo and nice pants. if they wear business casual like polos and khakis, then go dress shirt and tie. if they wear dress shirts and ties, go suit.
- khilled0
all you need is a tie and a smile

do not wear flip flops, man toe is an automatic "no" in my book.

let your work speak for itself.
there was a kid we hired at the firm i work at who wore nothing but dolce and gabanna in his interview. we hired him because of his work and attitude, but yet we still make fun of him behind his back today because he was unaware of our office denimor.
granted, i work at a firm who's mentallity is "fuck this" and "80's rock only."
that being said, whatever you would wear to work normally.
