You should just have a holding page requesting submissions.
Once you have enough, provide the search facility and launch the site.

It's a great idea, something that has been needed in the design world for ages.
It really needs to be a very inclusive site for it to really work.
It should work in a kind of open way like wikipedia. So anyone can submit anyone elses logo in lots of different incarnations.
For example the Nike logo, people could submit different versions of it from its history, with all its sub-brands. So in theory the big brands would have lots of entries which could then be edited by other users.
If anyone is allowed to submit some else's logo the database will build up more quickly. You need the most famous ones on there first eg fedex, nike, etc.
People should also keyword them by company sector and product, as well as geometric shape and style.
It could help avoid creating similar logos when starting a new project.
A great idea for a site but needs good managment and lots of users to work well and be truly useful.

maybe there should be option that when you have searched some keyword and there are many results, then rollover images and see some info, and when clicking on them, see the full info (and maybe also keywords entered by the author?)

On still think on submission the designer need to select (maybe from a drop down box) the clients company sector. At present it rely's on the person submitting to include it in the keywords.
This would be useful if you have a project and are searching for inspiration by looking at logo's created for clients in the same sector.

A counter showing how many logo's are in the database would also be handy.

Thanks republik8.
Have you posted any?

this might have been asked but how is it different to http://www.brandsoftheworld.com ?
nice site and there seems to be plenty of room in the logo-search arena for sites like yrs blastofv

thanks baskerville – yeah, I'd like it to be open and freewheeling, although it's not set up to run as a wiki sort of project...and I very much agree that the major logos need to be in there. I should probably take care of a bunch of those myself.
And yes, industry, regional/geographic, and other valuable non-design-related keywords should definitely go in there with each submission.

good idea
there needs to be some kind of quality control imo, I can see this getting pages and pages of utter shite very quickly.
- blastofv0
wow, thanks all for getting those submissions going! My observation so far is that people are way too restrained with the keyword entries. if you're sending designs in, make sure to cover fonts, industry, type of work that the company does, audiences, and then all of the descriptive design stuff as well.
everything you can possibly think of that might lead someone to find your logo when they're researching their own projects

hey blast, can't you put up like a keyword list or something?
