So, again, and for the last time:
Here is my plan fopr winning the war in Iraq: More boots on the ground as quickly as possible. Draft won't be the quickest way, but we do a two tier draft - one for professionals that can adopt to the high tech side of the military quickly. And a lower tier draft to get the guys with the guns on the ground.
As it is now all we got volunteering for the army seems to be a bunch of neo-nazi skinheads and other assorted high school dropouts. A tiered draft will probably raise the overall intelligence level at this point.
We institute a draft and get more boots on the ground in six months and pray it's not too late.
What's your plan?

Blue, don't you think this thing should have more of an international face on it? Instead of just Americans?

Of course. But at this point, who are we going to get to commit more forces at this point? Most of the coalition of the willing have left already. We broke it, we own it.
the options are : Get Out or Win the damn thing. The way to win it is not to "stay the course" and continue to destroy the US military in the process, it's to take the positive and negative lessons of Afghanistan and Iraq to date, and institute a draft - IF this whole terror war really is something that threatens our civilization as Bush contends, then we SHOULD and can win it. And you win wars by occupying territory. No war was ever won by not occupying territory. We don't have enough forces in Iraq to secure areas..they just run around putting out fires.
We proved i nAfghanistan how to incorporate tech with lighter ground forces. Now we need to take those lessons and apply i tto an urban environment in Iraq - and we need more people. period. If you can't commit to that, and you can't get the American people to see they need to sacrifice on that level to win, then get the fuck out of there.

The UN, no?
I mean it is a humanitarian crisis due to the lack of power and clean water, right?
- mrdobolina0
the UN thing would never happen because of Bolton though.
Of topic but your fervent "draft" comments are starting to scare me. I know a lot of kids that would be effected. I realize it probably is more of a devil's advocate thing but...

Crickets, eh?
I guess he'll come back tomorrow with the "But you guys never offer a plan..you just whine about how you hate Bush..."
what I suggested, will be politically unpopular, will lose you seats in the Republican Party, and will probably not make as much money for your corporate cronies, but if you want to win the War on terror, trust in the fortitude and bravery of the American people who have never shirked a real fight in their history, and tell them we need to win this, and we need to sacrifice our time our lives and our blood by instituting a draft to win it. That's what real leaders do. Tell people they need to make sacrifices and why those sacrifices ar eimportant.
I can't stand ineffectual leaders.

nah blue, it was the curly brackets php didnt like, not crickets.
I agree with you entirely. What a fucking boondoggle.

Yeah, it is partially Devil's Advocate bc I know it won't happen, but if you're going to go run around and occupy other countries in an effort to win what you have defined as a war, then you need more soldiers. Period. Every general said so from the beginning. Shinseki said it and they fired his ass.And. look, I'm on the fence about how much of a threat to America islamic terrorism is - I mean as a fundamental civilizational threat. But if you're going to make the argument that it is on par with mid 20th century fascism and communism (which the Bushies DO make) , they why not ask the American people to make the same sacrifices we made that we needed to win those wars?
Ajnd yeah a draft would suck, and I know lots of people would be effected, and many might die, and others wounded, but if you want to defeat this thing, and you define it as a war, then I don't see any other way...

Oddly enough this current crew loves to say that we lost vietnam because we didn't listen to the generals and things would be different if they were in charge, and once they were actually in charge, again they didn't listen to the generals because they were too busy fighting the ghosts of vietnam...
kinda greek tragedy & pathos there..
