- jam_factory0
30gb disk space
6 domains
750 gb transfer/month$6.95! been with them for over a year. the service and support rocks. i also like the fact that the owner has a blog where he honestly talks about the business - the good and bad stuff - www.mattheaton.com
- bunka0
With http://www.mediatemple.net
but would recommend http://www.dreamhost.com

Everyone's needs is different so you need to know how much are you willing to spend. Then weight up the cost for features. So look around at Media Temple, Dreamhost...

what are the pros of media temple compared to say, dreamhost? it seems to be 2gb for $7.95 a month with mt, or 20 gb for $7.95/mo with dh. . .. am i missing something?!
- emptyempty0
media temple is really really good.
Avoid Dreamhost if you are using lots of emails cos they sometimes have problems with email

i really jus want to host a single folio website with some flash stuff... i want it to be speedy thou. im getting swept up in a mass of hosting companies on various forums, confusinggg. i like the sound of mt, i kno that they are good for design sites, but i duno if it is too expensive for my small need.. seeing as i could get more space for the same amount from pretty much anywhere else (this is how it seems to me at the mo, but im not taht well informed, so i may be wrong)
- indian_pole0
i use http://www.doteasy.com
it's cheap as hell, but not particularly great. does what i need it to. basic html and flash.
- sair0
hmm, doteasy.. it says $7.95 a month for 1GB.. is that right/ this is more expensive than mt init? which is $7.95/mo for 2gb...correct me if i'm wrong,,

1and1 have reliable hosting and their control panel has everything
- bunka0
go with http://www.dreamhost.com (mt) is too pricey
- sair0
with dreamhost, i have to pay a $49.95 set up fee if i want to pay monthly.. . n it says $7.95/mo on the product details page but $9.95 once you go to the sign up page. blurgh/.

I'm in the same boat as you, looking to host my folio site as well as use it as FTP to transfer files. (mt) doesn't seem all that cheap but from what i've read they are the most reliable. I haven't bought yet and am still looking for opinions.
- sair0
OeufOeuf - what other hosts have you looked at?
- OeufOeuf0
Dreamhost seems to be a popular answer, but I must say after all the reviews I've read (and i've read alot) this company is 50/50 in terms of reliability. Only thing they have going for it is that if you enter a discount code you can get a years worth of hosting for a couple of bucks.
I've also looked at PowWeb.com, which from what I've read used to be good, but after management changes, have gone down the tubes
There's lunarpages.com which has iffy reliabilty and slow dl/upld speeds.
After all my searching (mt) seems to be the most reliable, albeit not the cheapest. I'm still searching for that sweet spot of reliability/speed/price, but then again we all are...
Please let me know who you decide to go with, i'll do the same and let you know how it goes.

yah i am agreed about dreamhost, i have read they are not the most reliable on more than one forum.
http://www.webmasters.com have been recommended to me by a friend, and they actually seem pretty good though $9.95 a month.. but you get 10gig.. and i am informed they are v.reliable.
Another one I have been looking at is http://www.cyberhostpro.com who are based in UK (as am I) £2.99 a month for 500MB (this does not seem a lot but I would upgrade once I needed more) 5 gig bandwith. I've not found a single bad review about them! Which seems a bit too good to be true in a way, but I am considering them definitely. I don't THINK they have a set up fee, I could not find anywhere on their site that said for sure.
I also looked at hostgator, 1and1, but I've not heard great things, I think they are companies that over-sell and then can't live up to it. I'm willing to pay a bit more to get reliable hosting.

Clook.co.uk are very good in terms of reliability. not the cheapest though.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
(not really, i just always wanted to say that)

Dreamhost are absolute shite. DO NOT GO WITH THEM. You WILL regret it.
I am with Netgator - http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-…

Brinkster seems to be the best if you need MSSQL and .NET 2.0.
What I use. :D
