Do you live there? Do you like it?

Is it more $ to live than NYC? Or, is it like anywhere else where you have to know the area, places, etc.

from experience and comparison (i've lived in sf and a friend working for time inc, living in ny) sf proper is more expensive on avg than ny
and sf has super clean air, rain every 3 days, and trees on almost every street so it always seemed so clean and fresh
i lived in sf for the year 2004 and am thinking of moving back within the next couple months

sf proper is more expensive on avg than ny ...
nope. poke around craigslist SF and NY. SF is much cheaper. thinking of moving up myself

I just can't leave this place. Way too nice.

SF is cheaper from NY when you take quality of life into consideration. You might pay the same amount for an apartment - but you can ride your bike or walk to work. And won't live in tiny rat infested 5th floor walk up in the East Village.
You'll also save a ton on clothes becuase no one in SF cares how you dress.

And look how safe SF is

love it, best climate in north america. It's never too hot or too cold - just right. Nightlife is decent, bars close early but for the quality of life here it's a pretty good trade off. It's pretty $$$, lived in nyc as well and it's pretty comparable, maybe a little cheaper.

i'd say best city in america by far. i think its now becoming cheaper than nyc, i read a report last week where sf was 3rd next to nyc & dc as most expensive cities to live in.

I used to live there. If you like big city living it is one of the best. Much more European. If you are considering moving there, it is a good move if you like that sort of living.

just moved from there, it a great city with so many beautiful things within and around the bay area. ocean, mountains, redwood trees, museums, vineyards, and big city living.

nyc is much more dirty, but is more excitiment.
sf is clean and relax, chill, but there is not much to do at night, shops close early. real bored.
rent is cheaper, but food is a little more, there is no cheaper chinese food as good as nyc chinatown than anywhere else. $2 a huge bowl of delicious noodles doesnt exist in sf.
but overall the weather is the best, you dont need to change your closet for different season, and nobody care how you dress.

Best Cliamate my ass.....this is the first decent Summer we have had in probably 3 years...last year we had nothing but fog and cold weather literally all summer long and this past winter over 3 months of nonstop downpour!!!! We had way more rain than Seattle! Makes London look downright cheery! Yeah you can bike to work (as I do) but for 6 months of the year you have to dress as if you are climing everest before you do.
Oh yeah...I pay $1100 for a small studio with a loft and these days thats condsidered a good deal.

The weather all depends on where you live in the city. Mission, Potrero Hill and Dog Patch are almost always sunny. Sunset, Haight areas are fogged out much of the year.
Id say the weather is great here in DogPatch. And when it is raining here in the winter, it is dumping in Tahoe.
