gorgeous flash work, it's a real shame when taking look at the source that it's not built better but I guess that's a small thing compared to the quality of the visuals.

Looks like it hits its target market well. I like the non-traditional approach

the video is great, but really that's it. Even that new Nike air site was better overall...

Once Again let your inhibitions go! Succulent and luscious, I want Fabulous and I may have found it. This experience is that of a 99-style intro. That bit of extra information after the wait that constructs the piece completely. Large images and floating items are like a colonic and aromatherapy at the same time. The concept of extra information and details because you can, because you did. It is the small of steel grey and pre-teen beauty pageants. Feathers so delicate, yet ravishing. I still a wait the day of beveled pixel fonts and terra ferma reflected imagery.

Engage... you're all about flash and the web... aren't you?...
... i'm confused why you seem to have a 'tone' about this site...
... it's a solid use of many realms of media in my opinion - the video work alone is beautiful... and it's integration and smoothness, usability etc isn't a 'dvd on the web'...
... 'get out why can?'
???
why the pessimism?
- neue75_bold0
why the pessimism? well, I can't answer for Engage, but to me the site is just garish, cluttered and overly idealistic, which I will say, on a communication level, really tells you what Vegas is all about I suppose...
My problem with these types of sites is that they are just like watching a television commercial. One big flashing, zooming, panning advertisement for overindulgence and decadence, you can have it all, even the hot girl, but only if you look like Tony the guido...
I thought the whole promise and future of the web was in interaction and finding new ways to interact with the audience, therefore creating more immersive experience and maybe eventually new[ish] vocabularies in visual communication? Maybe I missed the memo...
To me this is nothing new or even that interesting, but I suppose from a technical standpoint, it's pretty cool, but is this our measure of quality nowadaze, technical merit?

Tonight I met the programmer who worked on this site, really nice guy. He said that they used a production house in Canada for the video work.
Personally I think it's a bit much, but technically it works like a dream. It is the nature of what is 'Vegas', there really isn't much/any substance here and the casinos especially are way too afaid to push the envelope. I'm really amazed that a casino went this route, simply for a casino to use that round nav on the bottom right of the flash window is unheard of.
Other then the video work, it was all handled inhouse which also amazes the shit out of me. Pretty impressive for an inhouse team.

I smell tommy... :)
neu_75... extensive write-up/critique... I appreciate your thoughts...
... mgm 'needs' to be this though... sexy... over-the-top... that's what these places are all about in Vegas (fake... the place to get away from reality etc)... as tommyo can surely attest to...
... this is 'one of those times' when I think the overly indulgent/decadent usage of eye candy (both in technology (extensive video, flash, animation and lush/rich graphics)...AND sex) is actually used on something in which it's 'appropriate'.
This should inspire a desire for 'action & decadence'... and I totally want to go out and gamble and bang hot chicks right now!

Totally. This place is all about the Cheese Dreamâ„¢ (which is why I'm moving back to LA). And you're totally right, this site is exactly what it needs to be, the 25 - 35 year old with cash IS the Vegas demo. Although I think this site is a bit over the top, I think it's spot on for Vegas.
I've worked with casinos here and there since I've been out here and I must say, this site is impressive for way more than just its graphics and technical code. Casino marketing is like this black hole where good ideas go in, and mutilated committee garbage comes out. Really, you should see some of the email's Ive gotten while working on a project, I shit you not 5 - 7 people commenting on what they think should be changed and none of them actually talking with each other. This site reflects none of that committee bs, I'm willing to bet though, that now that it's live the different departments are going to start asking for changes and this site will change a bit for the worse. We'll see.
