How is it that clients will demand you spend your night toiling on their bullshit and are then amazed when they discover you charge for what you do.
Christ... this industry baffles me at times.
Would a mechanic put up with bullshit like this? Fuck no... the doors would be closed by 6PM sharp. Would a retailer put up with it? Nope... "sorry sir, come back tomorrow and buy that shirt you wanted."
fuck.
end rant.

go into the meat packing industry.

I was just fucking around but the fact that this industry works mostly on contractual basis it will always be like that. My contracts always have a list of deliverables. If the project goes outside of that contract, you are going to get taxed.

Dude, just tell your parents you want to be a mechanic. They'll understand.

(Jul 27 06, 21:09)Really_real? is this another resident NT douche? you're new.. i have yet to see you lurk around here.
either way: eat shit.ps: thanks dobs... i'm working for someone else, so i can't really control it, but having a client over my shoulder for 6 straight days has worn on my patience. the job was approved and at the printer (who subsequently pulled a "WOW, that ad looks great! Wouldn't it be cool if you guys tried doing __________ to it?). So, the client now wants me to do some marathon illy/photoshop work changes to her ad by 10 am.
i'm pretty fucking bitter.

bullshitCalculation = function(moneySpent){
moneySpent /= 1000;
var bullshitAmount:Number = (1/(moneySpent))*100;if (moneySpent [= 1 ){
return 'Your own fault - nothing for less than 1k';
} else {
return bullshitAmount;
}}
bullshitCalculate(3000);//returns liklihood, as a percentage of client-induced rage, as a function of the fucking crumbs they've chucked at you in return for a piece of your soul.

We used to do some overtime, generally not all nighters or anything but a few hours here and there and not get anything special for it but luckily our boss put his foot down and changed it to overtime by agreement only and at double time.
We don't do overtime anymore unless we've had notice and the person who's going to do the work has agreed to it beforehand.
I know what you mean about it being pretty rife in this industry compared to nearly every other though but I think a large part of it is down to the mentality of designers wanting to not things unfinished even though it means more hours.

I'm used to it, can't be arsed to get wound up about it anymore. It is a certain reality of the industry, although Europe in general has a bit of a different attitude towards overtime. If it absolutely has to happen, then so be it, but generally it's avoided at all costs...

I think it's funny how people react to Really_real. People take NT so seriously.
