Thinking on a change of scene. Been in Edinburgh for over 10 years now and I am getting bored with the place.
I went down to visit some friends in Manchester and I loved it. Not sure what the jobs are like down there but I am looking into it.
But I also want to travel. I sold my flat and made some cash so I could afford to do some travelling.
But when I come back I couldm't afford to buy a house!
What do I do?
do i travel, move away and buy a house or live the rest of my life in misery in 'burgh?

If you want to live a long life move to Sanford, North Carolina.
Everyday will feel like an eternity.

go travel. life is short as they say.

first mistake you did, was selling your place, you can always rent out a place you own with profit!

plenty of time for growing up later!
i sold a house in the states ages ago and, against the advice of nearly everyone in my life, used the cash to travel.
i've never regretted that decision, but i can certainly imagine having lots of regrets had i made a different one.
you can never travel too much.

what are you bored of in edinburgh?
it's a great city, although a little small i guess, but i'm from london, only been here 3 years, and loving it.my advice is move if you are unhappy. travelling sounds good. i went around europe on the trains before i moved up here, was great!

"little small i guess"
embra (and glasgow, I know exactly how you're feeling dita) is like a wee village after a while. Every time you walk down the street in either of Scotlands 2 big cities you bump into at least one person you'd rather avoid like the plague ;)

Christ, we're leaving Edinburgh by the busload... soon it'll only be Polish immigrants and Spanish tourists.
I've had 23 years here and I'm finally getting out. I won't be able to afford shit when/if I come back but it doesn't bother me. I think of it as a life reset. We've got no debt, no ties and a rake of money from the flat sale, who cares if it all gets spent (I've only got 1/4 left).
Regret the things you have done, not the things you haven't :)

(Jul 27 06, 06:06)i agree with what you are saying to some extent but i couldn't rent it out due to personal cirumstances and also i couldn't afford to anyway to much debt to pay off. Now I'm totally Debt free and have a wodd off cash.
Think travel would be the best thing just doing it on my own seems really scarey - eek!

(Jul 27 06, 06:31)i'm sure there is a certain amount of fear in striking out on your own but I bet anything you'll look back on it as one of the best things you've ever done. I wish I would have done it and I do plan to do some traveling with my wife through the years.
