Aha, so he's the person responsible for the horrific Nokia phones of late.
Can't say I like any of his other stuff either - feels like pained, redundant minimalism for its own sake, with little regard for the end user.
Nice site though. Appropriately cool (emotionally, that is).

how is there little regard for the end user? genuinely interested

meh, admittedly, I'm slightly mixing my anger for the Nokia units with my detestation of their design choices for these household units.
Have you ever used a swivel-hinge mobile? Have you ever used that Nokia 7600? Had it sit in your pocket? Written a text message on it? I do have a soft-spot for the leather and CAD-etched covers, but they are visual trends, independent of Tej's domain.
As for the domestic units, I just think they're more aesthetically designed than practically, which annoys me - especially with something as classic as a phone.
Maybe I just have fat cheeks or sunken ears (I don't know), but I always have problems with flat-faced phones - I'm especially dubious of flat-faced phones with chunky, protuding rubber buttons. How am I supposed to talk on that for any length of time, both in comfort and without risk of inadvertant button-pressing? How will it sit between my head and shoulder, for that far-too-long session on-hold with the Telco? Where're the goddamned curves for me to hold on to?
Don't even get me started on sunken LCDs with windows! You wouldn't want to see me when I'm angry.
*turns green at very thought of sunken LCDs
I dunno... it's all very OEM anyway - seems the subtlety of the design is thron out by the buttons and screen. I'm just an angry person, trying to find my niche. Style over substance.
* Realises futility and pointlessness of argument stream, goes back to 10kg Bakelite with rotary dial..

the whole idea of what a phone is has changed so drastically with the rise in popularity of cellphones, yet the form factor remains shockingly the same as a plain old corded telephone. i can't even remember the last time i used the number keys to place a call.
more often than not, the numeric pad is used to type out alpha messages. what sense does that make?
i would agree with that these are mostly a show of aesthetics vs fulfilling the needs of the new mobile user. nothing wrong with eyecandy though.

I think some of the suncopr stuf is aimed at the older consumer too.. hence the sticky out buttons
- chossy0
sunken ears or fat cheeks he he :/ puts hands over ears I'm cool guys they stick out by miles
:D............. :'(

i actually really like the suncorp phones on there. of course the only reason i even have a landline is to buzz people in my apartment through the call box, and so my tivo can call out every month.

The phones from an artistic standpoint rock. From a users standpoint they are a joke.
Agreed nairn.

Don't get the 'Honest update' bit by the way?

i like the nokia phones. friend of mine had the 7280 and i always called it a tampon case.
but yeah, they look good but the functionality is sort of a joke. i mean no keypad for the numbers but rather you have to use a scroll wheel?! 'form follows function' is a lost cause here

*stares at floor.
So, sometimes I get you and Honest mixed up. What can I say?
*coughs awkwardly

* opens OneNote, flicks to page titled 'NTers I have pissed off', adds Engage and, for good measure, Honest to long list of names.
