meh, admittedly, I'm slightly mixing my anger for the Nokia units with my detestation of their design choices for these household units.
Have you ever used a swivel-hinge mobile? Have you ever used that Nokia 7600? Had it sit in your pocket? Written a text message on it? I do have a soft-spot for the leather and CAD-etched covers, but they are visual trends, independent of Tej's domain.
As for the domestic units, I just think they're more aesthetically designed than practically, which annoys me - especially with something as classic as a phone.
Maybe I just have fat cheeks or sunken ears (I don't know), but I always have problems with flat-faced phones - I'm especially dubious of flat-faced phones with chunky, protuding rubber buttons. How am I supposed to talk on that for any length of time, both in comfort and without risk of inadvertant button-pressing? How will it sit between my head and shoulder, for that far-too-long session on-hold with the Telco? Where're the goddamned curves for me to hold on to?
Don't even get me started on sunken LCDs with windows! You wouldn't want to see me when I'm angry.
*turns green at very thought of sunken LCDs
I dunno... it's all very OEM anyway - seems the subtlety of the design is thron out by the buttons and screen. I'm just an angry person, trying to find my niche. Style over substance.
* Realises futility and pointlessness of argument stream, goes back to 10kg Bakelite with rotary dial..
