You've always struck me as being a little like me in some ways, Crouwel... what with your odd moods and cycles, low-level misanthropy and distrust of reality (well, speaking for myself, anyway). Now, for me - London is both the best (ie. only) place I could reasonably expect to live and the worst.
To be frank, I hate the place - I hate the people, the density, the people, the progress, the people, the place, etc.
But at the same time - I love all these things, because if and when it all becomes too much - I shy away in North London, with my [computer] clicks and my clique, until I'm ready to come out again.
And, as your fellow London-base Dutchie says, you're only a couple of hours from home anyway - London's Europe's hub*.
Regardless, the NT board of London would love to have you come over..
(* ha ha, take that Belgium!)

eg. I only came to London for '2 years', then was going to relocate to NY, Barca, Japan or.. curiously, the Hague.
I've been here, say, 7 years now, and I've no intention of leaving any time soon.
I will, ultimately, move away, I'm sure - just not for a few years yet.

thx Nairn! i recognize everything you say!
i have that everywhere, to both hate and love a place. litteraly. i think there is no exception.
today i read in the newspapers (in memory of the terr. attacks today a year ago) that people are happy noone is really bothered with that much anymore.. one citizen even went as far to say that he was glad that people in London are rude like before again..
and then i could hate that mentality... but then i think, what is worse? i am extremely fed up with the absurd sentimental and touchy mood of people here, on top of that most people here have no ambition and if you show even the slightest bit of ambition or will to make progress you will be burned down or pointed at. my god, the minds of people here are so fucking tiny it hurts looking at it..

there is more space between the subatomic particles that make up our bodies than the vastness of space
the relative difference between a short human and a tall human is infinitesimal

basically, you'll have to live in London for a while to enjoy it after getting past the initial weirdness, right?
Maybe one of the Brits can share the secrets to accelerate your knowledge of the city!
