Hey I'd like to hear anyone's experience with tattoo policies in graphic design companies. Ever had any trouble? I've always wanted one on my arm, visible with short sleeve shirt, but covered with long sleeves.

i've got a full sleeve, no problems on my end. it all depends on what kind of environment you work on. you might not want a visible tattoo if you're constantly surrounded by corporate creepos.

I have knuckle tattoos that say:

i have no issue with other people sporting visible tattoos, though i have a personal policy against it.
additionally, i have worked one place that had "no visible tattoos" written into the dress code.

I haven't seen any problems, i have some on my arms, and I know people that do too here at work, and it's a pretty big agency.
I think design is one profession where you can get away with it a lot more easily.

i have one just above my left wrist. it's somewhat covered when i wear a large leather watch.
i work at macrovision which is somewhat corporate, mostly not. only in meetings when clients come in do i (my personal choice, i wasn't told) wear long sleeves to cover it up.

(Jun 29 06, 09:19)that's what i was thinking. i don't plan on working anywhere extremely corporate, and the places I have been seem pretty casual in terms of policies like that.

(Jun 29 06, 09:19)yup.
Either way, I would definitely cover it up if I were meeting with people (like k0na mentioned) just so that it makes it a bit less possible for someone to judge you based on that.

I got one on my hand which is visible when full sleeve, it has caused me some problems when i apply for some jobs, those tight-up arseholes!

kona, what if the watch is plastic?
- kelpie0

Mine is on my bicep, but I would not work for a company with a dress code.

clients sometimes get a little edgy around my spidersweb eye socket tats, but I would not work for a company with a dress code.

oh pffft off. you have to secure a banana peel around your wrist tattoo each morning cause you don't even have enough dough for the plastic stuff.
it's cute how you doodle on it though. very original.

I have a 3/4 sleeve and have never run in to a problem. I think it also depends on what the tattoo is. If its something like demons or nude women then you might run in to a problem with some people.

(Jun 29 06, 09:58)Almost every company has a dress code.

Maybe its where I live, but to me this is becoming less of an IMO. Seems like every 3rd person is tatted now. WTF are you gonna do if someone's a good employe but they have a tattoo? Tell them you won't hire them?? Not a smart choice.
My prediction is that in 20 years dress codes that ban tatts and piercings will seem like banning pants for women in the 50s.

(Jun 29 06, 09:50)then i have somehow been transported back in time to 1992 when i had a swatch.
