In my profession, some legal type cannot appear on screen below a certain size or it is rejected by the broadcasters.
I constatly have to re-explain this to people who demand I make text too small to read, also text has to be on screen for a certain amount of time yet people still try to get me to cram 100 words into a ten second advert I have recently resorted to simply passing them the guide lines and asking them to read them.
Last week a client went berserk at me as I told them I could not make their ad for them until they decided to change the text on the advert. I handed them the guid lines and they didn't even appologise to me pricks.

(Jun 27 06, 13:36)I've had my fair share of winners, but some of these are unbelievable...
I guess my diamond-encrusted teefs ward off the bottom feeders

(Jun 27 06, 13:33)dijitaq, an even scarier story is I interned at a place 6-7 years ago and the boss/owner didn't know the value of a web site. Kept throwing it in FOR FREE to get a print job out of the client. Did it numerous times while we were there. Boss was just a business person who thought owning a design studio was a great investment.

(Jun 27 06, 13:39)been there, done that. Bosses like that are worse than the clients. they think a 200x200 pixel 72dpi logo on the clients website is perfectly fine to use for a 3 foot by 4 foot sign.

I heart clients, too. I mean that, really I do.

On a brochure for a HR recruitment drive:
"The brochure is lovely, we really love it but we don't like the font, you need to set it in Comic Sans. Bold. For added impact. That should jazz it up nicely"
Ah, another work of art for the portfolio.

(Jun 27 06, 14:01)that's when you set the type in Proxima Nova or Bryant, they'll have no idea you swapped the turd for a gold brick

does anyone ever get the balls up to say 'no'?
I do it all the time...
... and if you go at them 'respectfully'.... use phrases like 'objective results vs. subjective results'... thus you're facilitating (educating) while not letting them (the client) in on the fact that they're a clueless dipshit that should either do a little research on their own... OR 'trust' the hired guru to do 'what they do'...

A pull up banner for a major company that underwent a million dollar rebranding and developed guides for everything, including pull up banners:
"These banners are rubbish, they just looked like you threw them together and added our logo. Oh and that green is just awful!"
Me: but I did them according to your new brand guidelines and I didnt use the colour green"
"Well I printed it out on our plotter in here and its green. Let me check the PDF. Yeah, that blue is much better. Oh and I dont like the new branding, cant you just use the old one..."
I cried. Oh how I cried.
