no shit, i'm guessing the class b share right...
Cramer talks about SHLD (sears holdings) as being a mini berkshare... I'm not too sure about that, it is up 70 pts over the last year, so I'm still keeping an eye out on it.
Birk would be nice, but i don't like buying 1 share of things. even though it's all about the % increase, i just don't like putting that order through. I feel the brokers laugh... i know i would kinda chuckle

Hmm that SHLD stock is interesting

yeah, i tell people sears and they are like, hell no, sears. it's not the store, well it is, but it's not. They own the stores/buildings and a bunch of other co's. They invest in co's, just like BRKB or A. but people get hung up on the sears part.
- tkmeister0
yeah, class b. i think brkb is more diversed than sears. and i believe in warren's bussiness ethics.

beware gentleman
Could it happen here? You bet. With Rep. Charles Rangel poised to rule the powerful Ways and Means Committee, investors are in the cross hairs.
what a moron

New IPO out today. I'm sure i'll get priced out by the time I have access. But I've always thought these were cool.

If this was anybody but google, I would be a lot more interested. But at almost 500/share, it's a bit steep. But this is the type of stuff you look for. Small little news articles about expansions... and this is a pretty big expansion.

Good thing I bought more today:
SAIC Announces Financial Results for Third Quarter Fiscal Year 2007

Operating Income: Up 36 percent to $144 million
Diluted EPS from Continuing Operations: Up 30 percent to $0.26

joyride, I opened a Scottrade account and bought SAI on Monday. I became interested from reading this thread. It is also a competitor of a company I used to work for.
I can't wait to see how the news effects the stock price.
- joyride0
good call seed. yeah scottrades pretty nice. not really good on the charting, but i hear that's in the works.
SAI should be pretty good, I put an order in around last week that didn't pan out. Saw some weakness this morning and caught it near the daily low. I'm really planning on keeping this for 6 mo and then seeing where it's at.
Some are saying in 07 it should go to 30. I'll take that all day long.
currently waiting on LVLT to settle down, been hyped by a few reports. looking for around 5.50 to buy.
Hope you're using limit orders for you new account.
And congrats on getting into trading. You're doing yourself a favor, really!

Thanks for the tips. I have good amount in retirement plans so I am starting off doing this for fun. I'm starting small so I need to keep building it up to really make a difference.

Interesting, it's taken a dip so far today.
- tkmeister0
it is down 6%. stocks requires a lot of patience and strategy.
i think what i learned from my past is that stick with a plan.

This guy that I work with was saying that he only buys 10 shares each of many stocks. That way I guess it is less risky similar to a mutual fund. What do you think of that?
- tkmeister0
hmm, 10shares, if i am buying google, maybe.
i like to put in at least $2k into whatever the share i buy. i mean, how many different shares are you buying? 20-30 different companies? that's a lot of work tracking and researching. i wanna keep my picks to under 10. otherwise, i'd buy a fund and let the fund manager do the work.
i think everyone has a different style of investing. you need to find your own style and what works for you.
- mpfree0
that's smart tk
- joyride0
yeah, people are freaking out with SAI and moving any profits into quicker performers for an end of year push. Just set some alerts for like a 10% loss and let it sit. if it drops below 16 I'm out. but it'll bounce back, the market always corrects itself. I still think this is a 6 month trade.
10 shares of stock really isn't worth it. you've got to make a large % gain just to cover the cost of the trade. 10 $10 stocks need to go up 14% just to break even. Seems kinda silly IMO
