Good info... we'll get other NTers into investing/saving at some point. I dump 20% into my 401k (until i reach my yearly cap), freelance makes up the difference and some of that makes it into my scottrade account.

If you invested $200 every two weeks for 35 years in a retirement account that earned an annual return of 10 percent what would you have? Quite a pot of gold: $1,678,293.78.
Dang.
I really need to get my savings out of the bank and into a 401K or IRA

(Jun 20 06, 08:39)nobody is talking about a savings account. ira's, 401k's and the like are investment vehicles that put money to work actively in the market.
however, there are some killer rates for just basic savings accounts right now.
i get 4.80% at HSBC Bank - http://www.hsbcdirect.com

For anyone in there 20's-30's a Roth IRA would ideal; and for the starving artist you only need $200 to start one.

I just started some small time investing 9 months ago and I've made more than 10% on my $. If you were like me and thought that investing and saving money is only for rich people... you have to consider that one day you will be rich if you save and invest. It's not that hard, turn off the tv and do some research -- it will pay for itself in no time.

nice to see information that can help us being shared like that
nice article indeed

well said cassity.

the bottom line is, it's not about how much money you make. it's about how smart you should be with your money.
maybe i came to realize that i will never be a rock star...

I am suprised more NTers weren't aware of this. I'm am at 10% now. Get started asap and it will make a huge difference in the final outcome. Check out the book Automatic Millionaire. It is all about how it doesn't matter how much money you make and that anyone can be rich eventually by making the right choices with your money.
