and it only really drives me loco when they throw it in at the last minute – like they've chosen their new ID and they love it, but then they insist on adding to an otherwise completed design with super anal typography and detail work applied already

i present the two options and recommend when their brand is better known, to switch to something simpler (the second design).
i'm surprised at how often they take my advice.

some companies have a legitimate reason for having their full legal name.
especially if there's a lot of similarly named companies, they can get lost in the shuffle.
branding on the full name reduces that to a degree.

yeah, sometimes it's required for TM reasons, but when it's not a legal issue, it just clutters up the design
