wow, time to start estimating your taxes homey. I feel so bad for you.
- bradpitt0
wtf? that is ridiculous. hmmm...not sure what exactly to suggest here. That really sucks ass.

yeah, everyone should realize that your freelance is not all money in your pocket. You still need to pay taxes on it, of which, plan on 30% to be safe. if it's less go on holiday with it.
sorry man, it'll be ok... its only money. But if you don't have an accountant, get one
- blastofv0
get a lawyer man, today.
even the basics of tax law are difficult for freelancers (myself included for sure), but you're in a ripe pile right now, and you need real professional guidance - don't fuck around, just hire a lawyer
check with AIGA or whoever your local professional design group is and see if they can refer you to someone who specializes in taxes for freelancers

you need a debt consolidator and just consider 36k the cost of an education making you a better citizen. Even Ronnie Biggs paid taxes.

sorry to hear dude.
you need to get a gov. financial councillor or a bank advisor to sort this out.
- skelly0
yeah if you don't understand taxes, you should pay someone who does to sort that stuff out.

i want to move to a place where i don't have to do taxes.
There is no god in this world!

get an accountant!!
back tax accumulate interest. and though that interest seems little, it adds up very very quickly.
what i did when i owed 10k in taxes, i paid it off using credit card, then transfer to an account with 0% interest 12month. so i don't have to pay any interest on it.

I am having an anxiety attack for you. Seriously. Although it's 98% your fault. (the other 2% is just b/c I hate taxes). Make sure you get some legal help, or just pray that the Canadian government will continue to be polite.
- blastofv0
how's your credit? I'd be heading to the bank for a 30k loaner
you'll need to set up some sort of plan to pay it all back, but a lawyer can tell you what you have to do now, and what can be put off til later – and what might be disputable out of that 30k total
did you get formally audited? did you know this was coming, or did it just show up out of the blue?

that's rough and I would like to say I have sympathy for you man, but considering how I lose £1000 a month paying tax I'm finding it hard to be that sympathetic.
Get yourself a decent lawyer and start discussing a payback option.
There's no point in them throwing you in the slammer if you can show you are prepared to pay back what you owe.
Either that or head for the border...
soda
(Jun 15 06, 05:13)I must say I feel the same, I don't pay as much as soda as clearly I don't earn as much but the taxes go out of my account all the same and it's a real crapper especially since a lot of the time I wonder what they're actually being spent on.
However, not paying taxes because you don't understand how they work is beyond naiive.
I do sympathise though, I guess you've already got the best and most obvious advice though and that's seek professional help from an accountant or tax lawyer and go from there. Much as people on forums are helpful, the amount in question and ramifications would mean I'd come here for moral support but not legal aid!

fuck. gotta say this.
i whine because i pay tax, not because i don't.

conclusion:
Taxes SUCK.

How on Earth did this happen?!
Lawyer, now.
Accountant, now.
Be prepared to pay for those too, but perhaps they can find some extra money you'll end up not owing to perhaps pay themselves.
Yikes boy.
Good luck.

I love taxes. They're so much fun.

OMGFFSLAL
This entire thread is so pointless isnt it?...you simply need a good accountant to manage this stuff... to work out what you really owe (which is rarely the same as what they are asking for), how to reduce it, how not to do it again...etc... stop worrying and just employ someone...
- Jaline0
Did you talk about not doing your taxes in the previous tax threads? Because I vaguely remember you mentioning something about that. If you did, I wish I would've hustled you to pay them immediately.
- Jaline0
now I know why skelly's site is called 'SOLOgraphic'.

sorry, pbt. nothing personal.
