Gramme, it's not a "trend" to understand that human history alone far exceeds 6,000 years(let alone Earth, or the Universe). It's called fact. In my opinion you've been mislead.

(Jun 15 06, 14:35)Well I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree. In my opinion, there is not substantial evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the earth is billions of years old. Based on the current capabilities of science, information that is gathered on the earth's age can skew in either direction (towards the billions or thousands).
Recorded human history, like it or not, only goes back about 6,000 years. I have not yet seen sufficient evidence from anyone to believe that we have descended from apes. Every 'missing link' from Lucy on down has been proven to have been either a modern human or a completely unrelated animal (I believe there was a missing link found in Britain years ago that turned out to be a part of a pig, and not part of some pre-human skeleton).
At this point, the Universe is largely a collection of unknowns. I have no idea how old the universe is. Science thus far does not seem to have the best track record on determining the age of ancient things (planets, stars, etc.), so until then any notions I have about the age and origin of our planet will be fueled by philosophy and faith.
And I won't even get started on the problem of infinite regression...I'm sure you've heard all about that one before.

Mimio, we will probably never agree since we both think the other has been misinformed. I do however have respect for you as a person and a designer, so I hope the conversation stays civil...

actually the universe is about 13 billion years old and the way we can tell for sure is by measuring the distance to the farthest stars, which in effect is similar to looking back in time to the formation of the universe and galaxies.
- mrdobolina0
what about neandertals then, gramme?

(Jun 15 06, 15:06)too bad we haven't the slightest f'ing clue what spawned that formation.

hhmmmmm.... before letting scientific hypothesis develop and either get proven or disproven, lets go the easy way, and say some divine entity did it.

let's let jesus define us!

jesus @ some of the sloppy, selfish, anthrocentric denial of the fundies in this thread.
the world needs another carl sagan. ...his gold vinyl is about to become the first object to leave the solar system.

funny how the prophets, with claims of being the mouth piece of god couldn't concieve of other suns...
much less the fact that there are 100 thousand million stars in the milky way alone.
...outside that, there are millions upon millions of other galaxies.
there are more stars in the universe than grians of sand on all the beaches, and all the deserts of earth....
this is the beauty and truth of the scientfic method.
