How exactly do you align yourself with Nader? What besides environmental issues do you agree with?

i always liked his take on international policy. also the economy.

He seemed extremely naive and idealistic to me. He wanted to slash the military in half. That is a very potentially dangerous proposition to just fly around willy nilly, you know?

My president is Frances Beinecke.

Nader is also personally responsible for many of the current safety measures in the automotive industry. He published an expose in the 60's, and GM tried to discredit him and destroy him financially. Nader sued and won. He donated a huge amount to the consumer advocacy movement he had founded.
He has also been a vocal speaker on the topic of the economic imperialism of our country, and how it contradicts our fundamental principles.
So those are a couple reasons.

(Jun 6 06, 09:02)I think he understands the inner workings of the world and corporate culture better than any of us combined.

i would have loved to see america walk away from its self-appointed role as international hall monitor.
if you're not occupying countries that you've got no business occupying, you don't need such a huge military presence.
it is all speculation, of course, because there was never a chance that nader would get into office.
you can vote for the principles held by a party just as you can vote for the principles held by a candidate, though. i always knew what a vote for nader meant, and that's the vote i chose to make.

did either of your votes change from 2000 and 2004 or still both votes for Nader?

(Jun 6 06, 09:10)Yes, dobs, I voted for Kerry. I felt that this past election was too important, and everything had to be focused on removing Bush.
Had Kerry been elected, my polictical conciousness would have then gone back to supporting the growth of alternative parties.
As far as 2008 goes, we'll see what Jeb does...

mrdobolina have you travelled much? I get the feeling that you are only concerned with the US only because you never talk about anything other than America.

I don't blame either of you for Bush, what I am saying is Nader steals just a bit of the democratic candidates thunder every 4 years and I have always resented him for that. especially the past 6.

i voted kerry in 2004, mostly because since i had moved abroad since the 2000 election, my absentee ballot was processed through idaho (state of birth and permanent residence).
idaho's a lost cause, anyway, but my family were campaigning passionately and a lot of people thought that we might have made a difference.
a green vote in idaho would have been worthless.
of course, kerry admitted defeat long before the absentee ballots were ever counted.

BTW---I believe Nader was the only one of the three to be on Sesame Street. (Correct me if I am wrong)
How's THAT for qualified?
;)

(Jun 6 06, 09:15)Maybe the dems just need more cowbell.

(Jun 6 06, 09:15)that's one of the reasons i like him, dobs. the dems need to be kept on their toes instead of sliding ever further toward the center. if a green/nader ticket lights even a safety match under their asses, then it's a viable strategy for me to use in my democratic participation in national politics.

Nader needs a new suit :)
