It was like I was watching a 2 hour Charles Schwab commercial.

- lvl_130

I thought it was great

Besides Johnny Utah, the rest of the cast looks pretty good.

Those Charles Schwab commercials are such a turn-off.
I read, the rotoscoping technology was under lock and key but the producers weren't happy with progress of post-production and fired everybody bringing in a new team.
Guess someone took the knowledge and made some quick cash.
I'll catch it on net fliks

anyone going to catch this today?

Seeing it tonite at 10...
I'm of two minds about it, seems like Linklater keeps making the same movie over and over, buncha dudes talking drug-addled what-ifs in this hermetic little world.
But i still enjoy it, reminds me of art school.

(Jul 7 06, 12:13)I never saw that.

that sea-sick animation style doesn't really do much for me, though I'd go for the PKD association alone.

it looks good as stills, though

Watched Waking Life last night, one word, pish

I still want to see the film. Unfortunately, I grew up watching Winona Ryder films (she looks the same as always), and I'm in love with Keanu Reeves as well as Robert Downey Jr. (their appearances, anyway), so I just may have to see it soon. I have a feeling the style will annoy me at first but I'll eventually get used to it.

saw it sunday trying to escape the 100 degree weather and I have to say it was better than expected. Winona looked hot even as a rotoscope. Plus all the music was radiohead/thom york.

Under lock and key? Are you serious?
All they did was save the video as a bitmap sequence, and ran all the files through LiveTrace with a script. Then they tweaked each frame by hand where needed.

saw it on the weekend - kept waiting for the characters to turn real :(
but then ... I got hooked on the dialogue .... brilliant.

Enter response:was the dialogue anything like Waking Life... meaning - was it all philosophical horse poop that would even put Plato to sleep? (not to mention... get you 'sea sick' as hell)...
... or is there an actual story to this movie?
- nadnerb0
no the good thing about this is that it's based on an awesome book, so that holds it together. and it sticks to the story pretty closely. i thought it had good acting, story and mood/etc. Unlike Waking Life.
btw that rotoscoping style is not some "automatic" filter process as suggested. It's more complex and involves stylistic decisions and a lot more manual work than you might think.

yes - a great book by a great
author.
and it had a story Ponyboy:)besides my fav movie of all time Blade Runner was based on his novel.

this is a great line:
"They wanted to have a good time, but they were like children playing in the street; they could see one after another of them being killed--run over, maimed, destroyed--but they continued to play anyhow."
