Does anybody know if its possible to plug a SCSI Scanner into a G5 under OSX Tiger?
What type of card would I need to do this?
The scanner is an AGFA Duoscan
probably around 6 years old.

i dont think those old scanners support OSX. I tossed mine when I upgraded a few years ago. Plus you can get a better thinner one for just a few hundred bucks.

i had a SCSI scanner working on a B&W G3 under 10.3.9.. i'm sure Tiger is doable.

Aye a know tell me about it.
The firewire Epson printer I have now scans at too much detail. The old one was great for scanning watercolours because it didnt pick up the texture of the paper like the Epson does, which a right pain in the arse.

Can external SCSI be added to the Power Mac G5 series?
Yes. A PCI, PCI-X, or PCI-Express SCSI card can be added after the sale so that SCSI-based devices can be used (PCI-X is not supported on the Power Macintosh G5/1.6, Power Macintosh G5/1.8 (2), Power Macintosh G5/1.8 DP (2), and second revision of the Power Macintosh G5/2.0 DP (2)). Currently shipping models--the Power Macintosh G5 Dual (2.0), Power Macintosh G5 Dual (2.3), and Power Macintosh G5 Quad (2.5)--only support PCI-Express.
Apple mentions that almost every peripheral that is SCSI-based is now also available with either USB or FireWire support, and USB and FireWire are "hot-swappable" and easier-to-use than SCSI-based products. While this is true, if you already own several relatively expensive SCSI-based devices, a SCSI card can be a valuable investment.

I have the Old G3 that it was working off SCSI but I cant stand booting up under 0s9 to just scan things then having to reboot it into 0sx so I can then send the file over comp to comp network. Its a real time waster.
If I could just plug it into me G5 and scan through PS CS2 id be a god send.

the price of a scsi card coupled with the headaches of scsi are not worth it. spend the money you'd pay for a new card on a scanner, technology has advanced quite a bit in the past 6 years!
