well yes, but everyone says LCD are goods, and others that CRT are good.. but, I need a direct veredict for a designer related work specially.

i don't think they make crt's anymore.

LCDs are better just because of the smaller footprint.

People say CRTs get a truer and consistent color – mainly for print design.
I just switched to a 24" Dell flat and I love it. Unless you are an offset printer doing proffing, I don't see why there would be such a massive difference.

I'm programmer, then I use LCD for work, and I like those, but my friend (designer) is interested in change his CRTs for new LCDs, but need to know if it will be an improvement or not. Specially in his work.

get a wide screen lcd DAMN even small bitmap fonts look more visiable at higher resolutions its like you can see each pixel LCD def LCD im not saying its better for design cause thats a stupid question but if i needed to choose id go widescreen lcd

It's tough to find a new CRT these days... i switched to LaCie 319, but i don't think i made the right choice after all. If i would be buyig a new monitor now, i'd go with Dell, it's cheap and people say it's good.
Plus, there's no way you can judge colors by monitor, you still need a pantone book for print... so, it doesn't really matter how expensive your monitor is, IMHO, as long as it's ok.
I like LCD's because they take less space and look cool.

I have both, and favor the LCD.

CRT's are better if you are a print designer as the colours are more reliable.

crts are collectors items fetching huge prices on the black market
- rasko40
Rand is right, black people are really diggin' the CRTizzle

lcd's are great - even for print... just make sure you're running them w/enough video memory etc. I run dual LG 19" flatrons... really solid monitors.
Both are driven off the same card - but one is analog.
Now - the reason I'm all about paying attention the video card: My old card drove both monitors too - but the analog monitor had bad aliasing etc as the card was weak. So I bumped the card from 128 to 256 and the analog screen become just as clean and reliable as the one outputing in digital.
check yer vid-card too!

some lcd's come with a shiny clear plastic cover. reminiscent of a crt monitor. this darkens things a bit (noticable on laptops).
follow?
i prefer the depth of crt's thus far except the lcds that have this clear shell over them...
get the 2400 mac monitor instead. it's like 34 inches or something... prob decent color too...
