I'd like to learn Photoshop, what's the best way to do it? I know there are lots of courses but they seem pricey and I'm unsure which is good. Video tutorials on DVD, is this an option?
Also, what sort of demand is there for photoshoppers and what is the pay like? Is it all retouching work?

best way to learn is to use it. just do everything and everything.

Adobe Classroom in a Book. Just about anyone in the graphic arts, publishing, photography, motion graphics, web, dvd, cdrom development use Photoshop. It's an absolutely necessary skill.

CyBrainX is right
its an absolute necessary skill.you can learn it from tutorials and books or online videos but the only way you are going to get good at it is by using it.
its a combination of your creativeness and your skills.
ive been using photoshop for about 12+ years now and i am in NO WAY a master at it yet i use it everyday!
i just use it for what i need to everyday at work, creating gfx, giffing and jpegging, touching up photos, composing new photos / product shots etc etc.if you start using it and get pretty good at it, dont think you are special, you are just another one of us on here.

unless you have two fannies and a willy, then, then you are pretty special.
just not if you photoshopped them.

and if you DO get good at photoshop then you can come on here and start photoshop battles. we havent seen any of those for a while on here.
photoshop battles or thos photoshop quilt things are awesome!
of course, when i say "awesome", i do mean "shit"

dont bother with Photoshop... use this great program I found called "Paint" it's really top notch!
But really - there's not much demand for people who just know Photoshop - you would normally need other skills to land a good job. I know Photoshop inside out but not many other programs and I'm screwed!!

these are pretty good tutorials and usually cover a lot of the more relevant styles seen in design today: http://www.computerarts.co.uk/tu…

Go through and do the Classroom in a Book tutorials - good overview - and then use it regularly!

and dont worry about the pay.
Once you can flawlessly photoshop your face onto Sigourney Weaver's half burried and bruised lifeless (but still alive) corpse, you will have no need for money. You will have everything.

Thanks for the advice. I obviously know the basics but that is about 1/1000 of what I need to know. I have a friend who is doing retouching - he is not very good - and he is on 35k a year just using PS, I guess he must of got lucky.
What about an officially accredited adobe course?
