is it a 'good idea' to be 'creative' with the resume?
after-all... a resume goes in a drawer for reference - but it's supposed to be a 'quick-glance' document - for legible text... nothing else...
... thus - I poo-poo the creative resume... let your PORTFOLIO do the talking. :)

a resume is a typographic exercise in restraint

--------------------------------...bullshit, it's a typographic excercise in swiss gridology with an emphasis on subtle POPOZAO!

I always post Brooke's as a default for creative resume's, but she updated her site and it's different now../

I hate the purging of the PVN - there were some great resume threads with some really great examples, and they're gone now.

Mine looks like something that Rodchenko would have done in his sleep. If an employer can't handle it, I've got no reason at all to even consider THEM.

I believe in a tasteful, text-only resume. Let your typographic skills serve as a little forshadowing of what your portfolio may contain, but don't go over the top.
When I first tried to get a job out of college I was a rebel and a renagade and had a crazy-ass resume that was all color and cut to a non-standard size. I wound up getting a job with it, but found out quickly that its not the way to go.
It was particularly embarassing for me when the HR lady made photocopies of my resume (she put the original in a file) and gave the photocopy to the CD right before I went in to interview with him. It looked like shite!!!!
A resume needs the be 8.5x11, black and white, copyable, faxable, scanable, and 3-hole-punchable.
Maybe work on a classy, exotic container/folder for the resume, but keep the resume itself very standard.

We had that as a project at college, one girl put her foot in it by having Curriculum Vitae up the side, but spelt it wrong :D

mine is .rtf file.... 12 & 10pt Arial. Put your energy into your folio and stick with the "keep it simple stupid" midset on the cv.

I did get a job by having a creative resume once, but the portfolio really does most of the talking. Perhaps have some creativity with the resume, but keep it simple.
