Who rides here? What kind of street bike would you reccomend for a beginner?

i took last thursday off and spent the entire day riding around this and the surrounding counties.
it was all like this:
i cannot express how cool of a day that was.
by the way, the honda shadow is a nice beginner bike.

funny...i was just about to post a thread about this
im getting one of these bad boys next summer
its $11,000 for the first year insurance... so what i'm doing is getting my license this summer and then next summer the insurance will be lower
as a starter bike...its probably the dumbest idea ive ever had...but i dont care...i want one ;)

I'ce always wanted one...and now that gas is gfetting silly expensive I thought it would be a good way to get around town.

My cousin started with a Suzuki GS500, and then after a season started to upgrade, went from that to an SV650, and now he rides a 1200cc Kawasaki, I forget the model.
He says he loved the gs500, was great for learning and because he saved up to buy it new and kept it in good shape he pretty much made almost all of the money back when he sold it after a season.

However I see motorcycle accidents in the news almost daily out here. That shit kind of scares me away from ever considering it.
I'm moving 2 miles from the office next month so I'm considering a vespa for that commute.
