Do any (or all) of you guys have idea books? You know, like when you see a design you like you cut it out and paste it in a book?
I have a number of clippings and magazine, but never really put them into a book.
Do people still have these? Or is there some kind of digital program for this kinda thing?

I don't really have it in a book, I just buy plastic containers from the dollar store and use them to put away any bits of design such a flyers, pamphelts or type-specimans for safe keeping and frequently browse through them for inspiration.

That's pretty much what I have going now, but I'm starting a new job and I figured putting it in a book would let me easily move it from work to home and back.

i almost always have a sketchpad with me. although haven't really been using it much lately : \
def. handy to jot ideas down. plus it makes a for good reference for future projects if you hit a creative roadblock.

I like sketchpads myself, but that doesn't necessarily address your question. I don't actually keep a book either, but you may really want to consider it. You could even see about publishing it if it is really good.....
Another alternative is to scan all your source, and either make some kind of PDF, or make it into an html page for universal usage. Although, it is deffinately nice to get away from the comp, the web page is something you can kind of take with you, without worrying about being a mess. (Unless your HTML is crap..... :P )

i used a hard-bound sketch book (just prefer how they last, and can stash them in my bag easily) and store ideas, clippings, phots, etc. in it. might sound dorky as hell, but i even keep one of those tiny little spray mount cans in my bag as well and just hit each thing (i want to stick) with a shot and slap it in. is super-easy and fast and keeps it all in there and easier to work with.

I have a sketchbook to draw in, but I've always been the kind of person to hate putting things in books without some kind of binding. Binders aren't useful for this sort of thing, so I also have a hard-cover book where I glue clippings and other inspirational things. It has some lines in it too, so that I can comment on the thing I just glued in. Pretty useful and interesting to view again every once in a while.
It's hard to find something for every type of media, since all things are different sizes, so either you have to find multiple books to put them in, or you take pictures of them and then put them onto a computer.

i really want to make a book like this, i had a few when i was at the academy, with both text and images.. wonder where i put these....

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I think a spiral bound book is the best way to go. I'd probably lose pages in a binder. The spray can idea is pretty good...sounds easy.

I use my sketch pads like cocktail napkins. Write in them once to formulate ideas, rip out the pages that I'll use, stick the rest on a pile of used ones. I used to go over old books but began using them as a tool, rather than a way to communicate my ideas to myself.

also, make cds/dvds of your old work if you get bored
