i wish there was a way to actually show a little 'power of the people' and force a way to make the web 'ours'...
... meaning - take the network control away from the big corps - have them BUY and in return... sell 'net access' - but have it completely supervised by me, kyl3 and v4...
... and we could have this lil control room just like homer simpson sat in...
... you noticed I kinda lost my 'point' as I realized 'what's the point'?
sheeit... no matter what - we're gonna keep paying and paying and paying.

the house we may buy is up in the mountains and possibiy not serviced by dsl/cable. Might have to go with satelite internet which is reasonable monthly but a substantial upfront investment. Or I could go with dial up// Oh you need that jpg, it on the way. give it about and hour.
can one send files via smoke signals?

to address the more negative side of the coin...
if companies such as clearchannel and those with similar interests gain control only then would i fear the beginnings of an orwellian society.
already clearchannel has a list of nearly 2000 songs you will never hear on tv or the radio, or see advertised on a billboard
that is how much control they already have on what americans are kept unaware of unless of course word of mouth is used
that, i believe, is the greater fear from this possibile transfer of control

(Jun 11 06, 13:50)technically, between hex editing, ascii, and morse code, i dont see why not. though a 15kb file may take about a week
but it could be done

would be a nice experiment!

I could hire two interns, one on each side to, in turn, puff the smoke and dictate and enter the data on the other end. but youre right one week at least for a 1 mb file
;)

Enter response:haha!
I got it... 'torrent smoke signals'... multiple 'smoke seeders'...
... should get your transfer time down to about a day
- Crouwel0
at least it is wireless!!!!

of course... you'd need a number of 'open-source' smoke signalers willing to give up some serious sweat equity.

what about planes skywriting with smoke machines?

anything digital, smart people always find ways around.
well, at least i hope.

A non-neutral net could also have a pretty large effect on software developers, aside from the frightening concept of IPSs poking through all of your packets. Some links I found useful:
Tim Berners-Lee's position:

'the House voted to pass the Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act, known as the COPE bill. '
