I've heard that relying on caffeine too much to cure migranes can mean withdrawl headaches that become migranes.

Scarabin...that story is crazy, and pretty scary. What did the doctors say was wrong? Did this migrane flare up just come out of nowhere?
I tried taking that Excedrin Migrane stuff, it doesn't work for me, just makes me have to take a piss every 10 minutes, I guess from all the caffinee in it.
The first time I got a migrane that altered my vision I thought I was really going to go blind or that I was about to have an anyuerism and die, I had never experinced it before and it scared the crap out of me. Now I find myself doing everything I can to try and not trigger one. I have to have coffee at the same time everyday, no "caffene free" beverages (that instantly triggers a bad headache for me), and I try not to jostle my head around to much. If I sleep in too late on the weekends or change my sleeping habits I'm done for for the whole day. Too much dairy seems to do me in too. It sucks having to deal with this, whats this shot you can take? Some kind of adrenaline?

After years of suffering I got a prescription for something from my doc... it's expensive($10 a pill), but it works!

I've been suffering from em for a good two years. Was recently referred to a neurologist cos i was getting them twice a week and vomiting every time. Before being referred i'd been on 3 different drugs. The one i'm on now is by far the best and is called propranolol. Can also take amitriptiline. Apparently It should go after 6 months of these tablets....and it's already starting to get better.
People will give you so much advice (water, fresh air, coke) but I seriously tried everything and nothing worked...drugs are needed if they are serious migraines so see a doc straight away.

I've been having migraines since high school. and i pretty much get the same symptomes as bauts106. my migraines are hereditary which sucks. meaning my kids will probably suffer the same crap as i do.
my upper left field of view gets blurry. then i get dizzy. the blurr moves into slowly the rest of my eye sight and then i become blind.
as soon as i see the blurry spot i immediatly drink lots of water and take 2 extra-strenght advils. regular strenght doesnt do anything to me anymore.
then right away. i lie down and rest. even if i am at work. i rest my head and close my eyes. your boss cannot force you to work under those conditions. if he buys a damn super chair for the lady with the small back problem, he can let you rest for 20 minutes because you're head is going to explode if you dont.

(Apr 21 06, 10:39)the doctors and neurosurgeons never identified the cause, and actually had to make up a name for my condition because it was so rare.
they called it "ideopathic intercrainial hypertension"
"ideopathic" meaning "no fucking clue why" and "intercranial hypertension" meaning pressure in the head
but yeah, they basically came out of nowhere and thrust my life into hell for a year solid

I should probably go to the doctor and get diagnosed and get some meds. I guess part of me, and this is really crazy, is worried I'm gonna go to the doctor, hes gonna put me in a CAT scan and they're gonna find an untreatable tumor the size of a handball in my brain. Stupid I know, my girlfriend who watches "Grey Anatomy" religeously probably doesn't help my plight either, seeing as every episode is about them finding a brian tumor in a patient who went in to get treated for a sprained ankle.

nah, dont fret mate. I had a scan, its just procedure.

I got the CAT scans for other head-related reasons too.
- i_monk0
I'm "lucky" I guess, because my boss gets them too (more regularly) so he understands. I never go blind though, I just get the blurry crescent on the left.
- -scarabin-0
yeah, they'll probably do a spinal tap to check pressure
those are some freaky sumbitches
- taragee0
hi fluxi :) hows teh weekend shaping up?

Last ditch effort for me is Excedrin, ice pack on neck and face, lie down in quiet, cool space and chill out. This sometimes works when Rx's don't.
Botox is a wonderful relief too, if insurance covers it. I've been getting it for about 7 years, every 3-4 months. It is incredible relief, until it wears off.
The shots that the above-referenced dad gives himself are most likely Imitrex, like an epi-pen. But you have to catch it before it knocks you down.
Barimetric pressure fluxuating could cause the pain also. I use to be able to predict storms.
For some reason Gatorade does help also.
Good luck!
