You know how the mic. socket on the back of a mac is smaller than standard microphone sockets. Is it possible to buy a socket so you can plug normal microphones in?
Pref. UK.
Thanks.

do you mean to plug in an XLR mike? i've got one of those adaptors at home but i got it in hong kong, can't remember the brand. i'll check tonight. but any 1/4" to XLR adaptor should work

don't quote me but i think the answer is no, because it needs to be a mic with some kind of power supply, either via usb or some other source.
G4s, G3s used to be ok with a standard mic & jack.
there's a simple cheap USB mic made by Logitech, otherwise your into more coin for quality equipment.

i have the intel mac and i have no idea where the built-in mic is located, i asked theapple tech at the store and they were clueless as well.

lw-d.. i just looked into this again because i need a new mic and yeah, my first thought was correct; if you are talking about a G5 tower the jack has no power supply and won't accept any old mic.
looks like you either gotta get that USB cheapo from Logitech or spend $100+ for a quality mic.
