lw-d.. i just looked into this again because i need a new mic and yeah, my first thought was correct; if you are talking about a G5 tower the jack has no power supply and won't accept any old mic.
looks like you either gotta get that USB cheapo from Logitech or spend $100+ for a quality mic.
