Just a question to freelancers.
Do you manage your clients hosting and or domains for them?
Do you pay the hosting and or domain reg and bill the client? or do you use the clients C/C?
Thanks....

I usually steer clear if possible. I've done a couple where I've sent them a link to a host and told them to sign up themselves and send me the account info and one where the client is on a dedicated server that i somehow ended up managing but it's suprisingly low maintenence.
I guess it's entirely up to you, I'd generally steer clear unless you're going to make a few quid on it.

i made a few gigs and preferred to let the clients own and run the accounts themselves. but i had in mind not compromising with them beyond those circumstancial gigs.

I have a resellar account, so i host most of my own clients. I don't have to manage the server or nothing. I only host my own clients, so I don't get bogged down with hosting support questions. I figure, they need to pay someone to be on the web anyway. Might as well be me. Plus, it pays for all my domains and friends domains.

I charge for managing everything but not very much. I get all the hosting & domain bills and then just pass them on to my clients with a small mark up.

you do that through MT joyride?

thanks guys.
joride2 do you have a dedicated server that you host all your clients off?
- joyride0
no, I've got an account through
http://www.httpme.comGreat community of people. The support is great. It's not the cheapest resellar, but super reliable. I've been the cheap route, and it was a mistake. Its pretty easy to manage. Lowest plan is $35/month

I've got a server that I use only for my clients and then I charge them a discounted annual rate.
But, sometimes they've already got a solution so I'll use that or sometimes, if they're a bigger client, then my server won't handle their site so I help them to find a dedicated solution.
For the smaller clients I lease a Virtual Dedicated server from http://www.webmasters.com
It's 100 bucks a month plus however many IPs you need. Very cheap, very good and you can put like 100 domains on it.

(Mar 24 06, 08:39)No, I've got maybe 20 paying clients. I'm thinking about getting a semi-Dedicated server, 5 resellars per machine. just for more space and bandwidth. It's pretty easy. And because I host my personal sites, if the server has issues, I'm usually on top of it before any clients call. But, i've not had any issues.

Hosting has gotten so cheap, that I've started hosting some client sites. It pays for my hosting, all my domains' registrations and then some. It's a good way to make an extra buck as long as the client's site isn't too complicated and doesn't require much support.

(Mar 24 06, 09:34)Exactly! Make sure you have them agree/sign a hosting contract. You don't want to open yourself up to a lawsuit if their site goes down.

I have a reseller account over at HostingZoom. I usually charge my clients a dollar or more than the standard price and if you multiply that by 10-12 clients, you make some sweet money.

(Mar 24 06, 10:30)LOL: (1$ x 10-12 = $10-12) != sweet money
I pay $35/month and charge my clients about $10-15/month per account.
And your basically doing the same thing.
