I was just wondering...how do people organize their mp3 files here?
I have most of mine in folders, arranged alphabetically, and then I have artists that I listen to a lot in separate folders of their own.

itunes does all that.

is there any way to have itunes not import say...a dj krush cd into 10 different folders in the actuall itunes music directory? (ie. dj krush featuring mos def, dj krush featuring blah blah) it's all the same album, i dont want that shit divided into 10 sub folders.

(Mar 19 06, 10:27)i purchased all of the dj krush cds (not as mp3s either) and it does happen. both jaku and message at the depth did this to me. you must have a magical itunes import system...or have some other setting changed from default that i am unaware of. thanks for trying though : )

name the cd (ie: title: "DJ Crush makes terrible music"), view the info, and set "part of a compilation" to yes.
As long as the album name consistent between all the tracks, it'll all go into a folder labeled with the album name in a parent folder called "compilations"

I do have iTunes, I just like having the folders arranged before putting them into iTunes so that it's easier to view or search through them later on.
I guess I just have to use iTunes to the fullest. Right now I don't have any folders in the program, nor do I have separate playlists.

how do I get itunes to recognize files across my network on pc?

mr dobs, if you got itunes on your pc as well, just turn on sharing:
Preferences>Sharing
turn on both 'look for shared' and 'share', and the PC library should appear in your itunes as a playlist (complete with all the playlists you have on the PC)I'd like itunes to tell me which duplicate song to keep since most of em are of different lengths, that'd be a real help.

ahh cool peto. I will give that a shot. thanks.

jaline if you're still interested in replies.. i organize my mp3's outside of itunes divided into genre parent folders, and then sub-directories for each genre; Artist (A-Z), Labels, and Various/ Comps.
i then drop each of these subfolders into itunes as a complete playlist and batch ID3 tag every to match. labels get tagged per label.
organizing your own library system outside of itunes IS the way to manage large collections imo... been doing it this way a very long time. best not be at the mercy of itunes to manage your music.
