I have done work for free :) I've done quite a few favors for people around here. Anyone that doesn't do some personal work or work simply for the love of design isn't a designer. Is everything you do paid? Is that your only measure of self-worth and the worth of what you create? That must suck for you, joyride2.
But when you reduce the quality of a designer or company to "Well, they still make money!" then it becomes a completely different argument that DOES indeed shit on the craft. It irrelevantizes whether the work is good, and starts looking at the bottom line, in which case you could probably hustle and shuck Template Monster templates on every client and still match 2advanced's yearly profits.

Wow, I can't believe 2A still gets the threads going!
Design - not bad for what it is, looks just like there other stuff (that's not bad or good, imho),
all seems kinda pointless to me (swirling this and that, stupid tests, etc.), but for a Nascar fan probably looks like a masterpiece!
Gotta hand it to them for being smooth. Not many out there that I know of that are consistently polished (not in the design, but the details)Marketing - pure genius, they get large clients, continue to generate buzz on here (thereby solidifying their place in history, like them or not)
Still puzzles me why the same discussion happens each time they make a new site. At least it's better than most of teh designs out there.
But then again, I gotta post my bs too

lol... thats a pretty bold statement.
Good work brings in clients. If you want to sit on your high horse and say I do it for the craft. Thats great, good for you, I respect that. But, if I want to do good work and capitalize on that, don't tell me I'm wrong. It's just different, its still a freakin website. It's not going to be hanging in a museum. It's not going to change the world. At the end of the day, its a website, its communication.
