I have done work for free :) I've done quite a few favors for people around here. Anyone that doesn't do some personal work or work simply for the love of design isn't a designer. Is everything you do paid? Is that your only measure of self-worth and the worth of what you create? That must suck for you, joyride2.
But when you reduce the quality of a designer or company to "Well, they still make money!" then it becomes a completely different argument that DOES indeed shit on the craft. It irrelevantizes whether the work is good, and starts looking at the bottom line, in which case you could probably hustle and shuck Template Monster templates on every client and still match 2advanced's yearly profits.
