I also have to add that I am questionaing your market positioning, because this is very staid and quite down market looking at the moment, it actually reminds me of the sort of thing you may find in a motorway service stop. Organic type café's /stores here are frequented by wealthier types and the identities reflect a more modern/contemporary feel.

Thanks, I'll do what I can with the shading. The original concept didn't have those lines but I added them for that "rustic" feel but I guess I could change them.

The n feels too clean - it needs some texture. It's not crunchy enough.

Rasko, I know where you're coming from and that's how I approached it at first. However this little bakery/café place is in a small town in Ontario, Canada (population = only a few thousand) and there are very few of the "wealthy types" around there.
After proposing a modern, contemporary feel (which is what I prefer), she said no, it has to be a warm, traditional country-style logo and she proceeded to show me all these pictures of friggin' wheelbarrows and wheat stalks and all kinds of country crap.
Anyways I agree with you that it should be clean, modern and contemporary but that's not her "style", as she told me. Too bad but I gotta do what the client wants.

i fit's going to be hand-stamped on everything, maybe it should have a hand-stamped look to begin with. it would give the logo more character, as well as conjure up an old world feel.

hah

but if it looks all raggedy n shit to begin with, then how much worse would it look once it's stamped? I guess i'll keep a clean version for stamping and make a roughed up version for screen.

its a cakey shoe, a shoe cake!

Inside but I actually prefer the grey box you drew and the text to hold the logo more than the logo so what do I know.

outside for sure, for the sake of scalability...and why not follow the curve of the banner for the Bakery & Cafe bit? Might make it a bit less detached from the rest of the design
looks good

I don't understand the stick of rock with the n through it?

definitely outside

it will be easier to revise onece you have the stamp made - you can redraw a screen version from scans of the applied stamp.

perhaps ditch the outlines on the leafs on the left. the color contrast is enough already...
it only causes problems recreating at tiny size and more work plotting/pasting and what not..
