as you were indeed...
the fact that u.s. ports are as porous as u.s. borders can go back to getting little debate and even less attention...
- Mimio0
It's not a freemarket issue, it's a national security issue, most Americans just don't want it pushed through without a more thorough investigation.

The coastguard are responsible for port security. Dubai are not trying to buy the coastgaurd.

" two things bug me about this... one, it's being portrayed as america selling to uae. which it isn't "
my understanding is that this company is quasi national... majority stakes are owned by "princes" of the ruling family...
its all seems kinda sketchy, but far, far less of a danger than the current lack of oversight at u.s ports.
causae walmart needs that cheap palstic shit from china and they need it fast...

Instead of accepting the UN mandate for dividing up what was called Palestine in 1948, the Arabs tried to destroy Isreal at birth:
They failed.
Wars have consequnces. It has nothing to do with "legitamacy."
If this isn't the case, give back Constantinople.

My issue is not so much that it's a UAE company, but the issue of WHY THE F DON'T WE HAVE A US COMPANY THAT CAN HANDLE THIS?

" My issue is not so much that it's a UAE company, but the issue of WHY THE F DON'T WE HAVE A US COMPANY THAT CAN HANDLE THIS? "
Its not all that profitable?
I think UAE is trying to compete with the likes of Singapore... You need to control ports to have the kind of "street cred"

actually, Cactus, the partition of mandate Palestine resulted in the disposession of close to 150,000 Palestinians by newly arrived European Jewish militias. A people who lived in that land for thousands of years found themselves effectively ethnically cleansed for living on the wrong side of the divide. Yes, wars have consequences... So do colonial enterprises.

skt, go make your case to the 68 Senators who just called for an investigation. Maybe you know something they don't.

If this had happened in 1998, nobody would've raised a cunthair. But "9-11 changed everything". Now it's perfectly allright to be xenophobic bigots and call it being 'security-minded'.
- KuzII0
and what exactly do you mean "YOU give back Constantinople?"
lol, oh, i see...

My biggest beef with this whole thing is how bush tried to ram it through. Threatening vetoes before anyone even disputed it.
Bush has never vetoed anything in his presidency.
Then you see that this company in Dubai has ties to the Carlyle group to which his father was on the board of directors and many ex-gov officials sit on this board and it all starts to make a ton of sense.

...and Dubi might be the greediest fucking nation on earth... and I mean that in a good way...
terrorism isn't good for business especially tourism...
are they not striving to be the de facto destination for ultra wealthy cats?
that's why uae hasn't recognized isreral... it wouldn't be good for business...
ya think establishing diplomatic ties to isreal might invite some islam-o facists to blow themselves the fuck up in one of those swanky hotels?
i do.
- uberdesigner0
they should get some of these watching the ports

(Mar 9 06, 10:57)//yeah, don't discuss anything related to your government ever, that would be crazy.
- Momentum0

ya know what i mean
- Cactus0
... and the Shephardic Jews who were expelled from their homes throughout the Muslim world?
Arabs had militias too and where backed by the armies of all the surrounding nations.
"A people who lived in that land for thousands of years found themselves effectively ethnically cleansed..."
You could say the same thing about the Jews who I think, if memory serves, were there long before the Arabs.
