sorry to hear that. lots of good times by the sound of it.
One of our dogs ran off into the hills chasing a deer friday night with a 30 ft retractable leash attached to him. we were freaking out as there are mountain lions and coyotes out there. we searched for four hours in the darkness only to find him caught on a tree by the leash about a mile up the hill.
glad to have him back.

My cat, I named her "kitty" when I got her when I was 12, died in her sleep after 16 great years with me. Fiesty until the end. She was a tabby like yours and looked remarkably similar.

My dog once ran away and I chased it around town to catch her. Just as I almost caught her, she ran across a big busy road and got hit by a car. But lucky as that dog always were, it was an ambulance that hit her, and it had good brakes. She only got a few scratches on her head, and the paramedics in the ambulance took good care of that..I really thought I lost my dog that day and I still feel sick to my stomach, when I think about how it was to watch it all form the sideline.
